Actually .. whatever is at hand and easiest to start when I get home ..
(and I always keep some charcoal on hand in my storm kits along with extra propane tanks)

Charcoal has more flavor, but propane gives you temperature control which means timed cooking, which is a bit more relaxed.

I might as well cook inside on my gas stove if I'm grilling with gas. Charcoal is where you get the best flavor!

Propane is easy for a quick meal, but charcoal is for guests, that's why I have both!

it does ..but it gives a real good flavor ... especially for smoked turkey & rips. that pecan wood is good for sparerips .too .

We use charcoal and mesquite in our big pit that we pull behind our truck,but we also have a small pit that uses propane.We are set for any and all outdoor cooking.Plus if my husband cooks outside I don't have to cook so much inside.Makes me happy.

Sorry, if I want to cook something fast I use Propane. But for taste Charcoal is much better.
