It's both really. There are definitely times where graffiti can be beneficial to the community it's in. I don't agree with the artists who don't ask first, but then that's part of the culture of graffiti artists. I say, do it until you get caught, but try to get an idea of wether the locals are miffed when you do. After that you can just go clean it up or paint over it. It ends up being the best of both worlds then!

Depends; in Baltimore they have morals with great graffiti done on many buildings. They were amazing and neatly done; with a permit to do so of course. If you go off painting/spraying on other people property, then it turns into vandalism.

So because it is in your art class you classify it as art, what if you were never in an art class, how would you classify it than?

How do *you* tell the difference then?

Granted permission and it has an artististic purpose/message then it is art. If someone is tagging someone's property for gang purposes then it would undoubtedly be vandelism.

What if you don't have permission but it still has an artistic flair?

By definition, it would be art but it would also be considered vandelism.

Fair enough but I've heard of many people disagree about that including my math teacher.

If you deface another s property without the owners permission it is vandelism - your math teacher is incorrect

He has said to the class that some is meant to be art and some is meant for hate and being a hooligan, and that is how he defines the differences.

He's right with the technical meaning but if not your property it is vandelism. You can be charged if the owner wants to press charges, or if the police catch you doing it

I so pose you will stick with the legal meaning then? For me I'm kind of in between I think it's cool I've seen some cool graffiti before.

However on the other hand if someone did it to my car or my home my opinion on the matter *might* change.
