Face Unlock

With Face Unlock on Galaxy Nexus you can now unlock your phone with a smile. No complicated passwords to remember, just switch on your phone and look into the camera to quickly unlock your phone.

This sounds like a great feature... keeps the phone more handsfree so you can unlock your phone without typing or swiping. I wonder if people can hack it with holding up a picture of the person to mimic.... Google probably figured it out and has 3D and other features to make sure people don't trick it.

Sounds cool, but I personally wouldn't trust it. If it's sensitive enough to keep other people out, then it seems like it would be sensitive enough to keep ME out if I wasn't smiling in quite the same way that day.

People can have similar facial features, and like with a finger swipe unlock (which we used to have at school on our tablets), there has to be margin for error for the program to search for, or you will never get into your phone again.

Mythbusters beat a fingerprint scanner with a photocopy of a finger.

    freakoutnow... cuz mom's here
Well like any tech based security measure, the tech has flaws. In the case of fingerprint scanners, they can be beat by photocopies, a wax impressions of the fingerprint, by the cutting off of someone's finger and using it (disgusting but it's been done), or hacking the system and manipulating the files so that your print matches another file and the old match is either matched to someone else or it's erased from the system. Combine that with the fact that tech things have to have a built in margin of error (or they will almost never work or be practiccal) and by the nature of tech they can malfunction in numerous ways (therefore you often have to make a system hypersensative and often have placed in them some type of keyword/manual override to compensate for having to make the system so sensative).

Sounds like a kind of neat idea, but what if I don't want to smile? What If I want to be able to unlock my phone with a scowl?

I trust NOTHING to do with Google, FB, or any of their affiliates. This keeps up, I might just decide to forsake all technology, just to prove that it isn't necessary for existence.
