This at least is more /economical/ (sort of!)
(although renting a vehicle in the San Francisco Area is quite pricey indeed)
At least the toll is for a round trip ..
and if you are very aware of the map ..
you can find a place to park that is either FREE or somewhat /cheap/ ..

I DID want to not only view the Golden Gate Bridge
From not only the Ferry Boat (water view) ..

But also from both Ends of the Bridge on the Overlooks.

the most interesting part I found was the Lone Sailor Memorial
http://navymemorial.org/Visit/NavyMemorialsAroundtheCountry/S...

IF you move around a bit ..
you can get the LONE Sailor Statue PLUS the Sea Bag ..
PLUS the Bridge
ALL in ONE Image to shoot!
(It's a STUNNING Image .. I've actually included it in one of my Exhibitions!)

A 2nd stunning Image is to get the light with the Bridge in the Background
(Another stunning Image that I included in an Exhibition)

MY suggestion .. PLAN The day .. look at the map and also look at the website to figure out where you want to VIEW, where to park, and then STICK to that plan (otherwise it can be mighty expensive to do this!)

Born and raised here in the SF bay area - I've watched it go to hell for years, but the last 10 have really screwed it up. Sure, there are nice things about living here, but there are plenty more BAD things. Take a drive through Richmond, or Oakland - we have the rich and the welfare rats and dope dealers - not much in between. Personally, I liked New York much better than I ever liked Sand Franfreakshow.

I love SF. It's only an 90 minute drive and one of my favorite weekend getaways.

Yes, it's a breathtaking part of California. Unfortunately it's overrun with nutcases.

Funny, because I was just thinking about this the other day. Might have had to do with a question I was sent, whether or not I liked fog. Indeed, especially here. Fog rolling in over the Golden Gate. A definite sight to see.

SIGH .. I so know that .. saw the Rainbow over the Tunnels I went through to access the overlooks .. (and the city itself too ...)

    BUT .. going mid-week .. it was far less /occupied/ .. and I got good photographs ..
(too bad there was so much trash around the sites/overlooks ..)

A must-see sight before you die. America's most beautiful city.

Too bad it is central headquarters for all the fruits and nuts that congregate there. SFO is also a sanctuary city meaning conservative crackers are not welcome there.

I have flown over it and I've sailed under it. I was tempted to sail over it and fly under it, but I knew I'd get in trouble with Uncle Sam. All kidding aside, I have flown over it when I was bringing an A4D from MCAS, Yuma to NAS, Alameda. I also sailed under it in 1959 when I returned from Japan aboard the USS Sandoval. Never a prettier sight, even from the bottom.
