So the new iPhone 5 - gold-plated! So who feels the need to have such an item. Now looking at it from a marketing perspective is quite clever. There is a niche market here because the people who designed it, know that there are some people who feel as if they must own one of these things; a bit like the person who has to own a large house or a luxury car. They envisage that It will add to their stature and prestige amidst the common man. Signs of an inflated ego and ack of sense of true self methinks. The richest man in Australia, Kerry Packer, died a few years ago. When he died, he had already undergone two kidney transplants. Gold-plated iPhone 5 or no, it does not make its owner better or worse than other human being; they just get to feel like they are and as an added bonus, they have a talking point at parties too!

way too much! mind you they do have a gold plated ipod touch, i do believe. you pay like 1200$ for a 64 gb though, so not worth it! as the gol dvalue in it is maybe 10 dollars if your lucky!

But, if you are a person that goes like say overseas, where gold is worth more, there are possibilities that one can get a good hunk of change for the stripped gold :-)

not when there is literally only 50 cents worth of gold, in other words if some country had gold valued at 5000$ an ounce then youd get 5 bucks instead of 50 cents (approx)

gold plate is hardly any gold value. like it or not. if you melted the metal and kept the pure gold, it wouldn't even amount to 1/20 of an ounce be way less

How does an iPhone scream 'I can't think for myself'? I have one, and I can definitely think for myself. I only have one because I know how to use it from having and iPod Touch and I hate learning to use new phones.

Now a gold plated one, little crazy, but cool if you can afford it, I think it's funny how much hate the iPhone gets, I bought one, it wasn't expensive, and it's epically fast, I can answer twice as many sodahead questions in the same amount of time! :P. I feel like people love to hate on the iPhone.. Btw. Not a fan of most other apple products, way overpriced, so a fanboy I am not.
