BOTH. My husband has a very cool goatee and stache. He once shaved it all off and I refused to have anything to do with him until it grew back. (4 weeks to be exact). He looked like a stranger to me, and lost about fifteeen years off his age. He has never done that again.
It doesn't matter to me. What ever my husband feels like doing he has had both. He looks good in both. He doesn't tell me how to wear my hair and I don't tell him to shave. I do occasionally have to tell him how to dress if he is going out with me. Ha HA.
I was just thinking of this the other day. Ok I hang out with sci fi fans and they are mostly guys. Now, I hate to sound vulgar, honest, but every time I see a guy wearing a goatie I think of all those fanboys and how they aren't getting any, so they grow a goatie to rep what they are not getting. Vulgar and sorry, but that's what I think of when I see a guy wearing one.
I have what is known as a soul patch, it is just hair on my chin, in all honesty a goatee is the same thing... because it is named for the hair a goat has on its chin, the thing people uaually call a goatee is called a moustache and goatee.

The mustache back in the 80's was not a good idea though.
