The Glass Slipper Project is a program established by Arkansas school counselors looking to help homeless and needy students get everything they need to attend their senior prom.
More than 100 Fayetteville High School juniors and seniors will be attending prom because of Project Glass Slipper, which provides them with a free ticket, dress (including alterations), shoes, and accessories. Volunteers have also joined in to provide free hair and makeup assistance, as well as nail painting.
Do you think most girls spend too much money on prom? Why?

Some families simply can't afford them. I noted one of the girls had lost her Mother and her aunt was raising her and couldn't afford a prom dress for her.

i didn't want to go to prom( we have a sophmore/ junior prom), but i was asked by my friends and i went and you know what? we probly looked like the dorkiest ones with the way we were dancing, but i bet you that if i hadn't gone and had the time of my life, i'd be kicking myself for not going.
it's like getting married or having a confirmation.

I spent $30 on a mani and pedi, $15 on an eyebrow/facial wax, and $25 on a spray-on tan.
This is kinda what my dress looked like:
"A. You have to PAY to rent me a tux. B. I don't have a job so you'd have to PAY for tickets, meals, gas, and a corsage C. Who am I going to ask? I don't know anyone that well. D. A prom is a dance with a bunch of people that I don't really care for and I can't dance. So why would I even consider it?"
The subject was never brought up again.

Many people don't attend prom (or any social engagements) while in school because of financial reasons. While seemingly mindless activities, they do add to the memories and sharing of the common experience.
