Gisele Bundchen Prays Before She Eats Meat: Crazy or Cool?

From insisting that breastfeeding should be a law to dissing on sunscreen to saying that childbirth "didn't hurt in the slightest," Gisele Bundchen has always been a little, well, offbeat. And now she's at it again.

The Brazilian supermodel (and mother of Tom Brady's little one) says she prays before she eats meat, and limits herself to only eating red meat once every two weeks because she feels guilty (even though she loves steak). Talk about a weird Gisele fact!

meat limits onlynbspeating red meat weeks feels guilty loves steak

"What I find really helpful -- you might think I’m crazy -- is that before I eat any meat I always take one second of silence to put my hands over it and bless it and be grateful at least that it was a life," she told British Vogue.

And here's one more weird soundbite: she's convinced her 22-month-old son Benjamin that broccoli is better than ice cream. "My children, they are like white canvases. When Benjamin eats broccoli, he thinks it’s dessert," she said. She also has a 4-year-old stepson, Jack.

Back in the old days, Bundchen smoked a pack-and-a-half of cigarettes a day, drank a lot of red wine and ate a lot of steak, according to The Daily Mail. We kind of like the new, healthier Gisele better -- even if she is a little kooky.

Whenever the Native Americans (and I might assume other Aboriginal peoples) hunted, they thanked the animal whose flesh and hide they used to sustain their own life. There is nothing crazy about that. I think we would all do better to be more mindful of what we eat and appreciate its life. I grew up on a small farm and some of the chickens became meals. To their last moment they had adequate space to walk around, they had plenty of food, and they were slaughtered quickly. My father's father was a veterinarian and his grandfather was a butcher. They taught him to be mindful of the lives of animals, and he in turn taught me and my brother. The horrors of factory farming would not exist if more people were mindful of the lives of animals. I don't like anyone else imposing their spirituality on me, but this is not what Gisele is doing. I say good for her in this case.

I'm going to say cool because I see she's trying to find the right answers to health, caring about animals to apparently life itself. That's not a bad thing, but a very wise thing to do. I hope she finds all the right answers. And she can.

This isn't unheard of, you know.

If this is what she wants to do, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

I believe some used to pray to thank the creatures which provided the meat that they ate in order to sustain their lives. One of the more logical prayers, if you think about it. Respecting the life taken so that you could get the sustenance you need.

She's another one of those self absorbed divas trying to get attention. Ironic that this came out on day sandwiched by two inept performances by her husband and supposedly "star" quarterback, Tommy boy.

Most if not all indigenous cultures pray before and after a hunt and also thank the animal they have killed for giving it's life in order that they can eat. I think it is great and showing respect for the living things we have to kill in order to survive.

there is nothing wrong with giving thanks or blessing food, it is a spiritual deed, being in tune and grateful to nature and the powers that be. More people should learn to be grateful and express it freely. This world would be a much better place if others were a little more grateful for the world we live in.

Nothing remotely weird about acknowledging that meat you are eating was formerly a life that shared your will to live. I think it's great, that she has convinced her young son that broccoli is a "treat".

I pray over all of my food before I eat it, meat and all! It's called saying your "grace" and asking God to remove all impurities and thanking Him for your food! I personally don't see anything crazy about it!

Read RoseLaMort's post about praying over meat your about to eat, and be informed.

Saying grace even over meat is not crazy, little strange but her right to do it.

Soda Head is a little off track with posting questions like this anyway. Their asking for opinions on a well known person’s personal business. What’s the point?

I read it before I commented and stand by my original post. Why do you imply I am not informed? SodaHead has the right to post whatever type question they want. We have the right to answer or not.

Well don't take it so hard,..... Really.
You posted "Weird? What's with the religious persecution"?

Sounds like your misinformed about a lot of things when you called this person persecuted.

She is most likely doing something she was taught from family that goes back a long ways.

Soda Head? Lots of people think they post questions that are a waste of one’s intellectual time.

Now, put that in that ugly Dog's pipe and smoke it.
