Girl Makes Prom Dress Out of 18,000 Starburst Wrappers: Cool Idea or Just Crazy?

It seems like prom dresses get more and more out of control every year: They're too sexy, they're too expensive ... it's always something. So Diane McNease decided to a revert to a more innocent time: she created her prom dress from 18,000 Starburst wrappers.

Diane, a high school junior from northern Michigan, used the wrappers to make the bodice for her colorful dress, telling WLUC-TV it took her a year and a half to collect all the wrappers and five months to create the dress. Her school friends helped her eat her way through the project.

But she did have a little help: McNease's pal created the black satin "ball gown" skirt for the dress, she tells Yahoo! Shine. Her dad also helped. "Every night he would help hand sew the folded strips of wrappers to the dress for a few hours." Their hard work paid off when McNease wore the gown to prom last Saturday night ... do you like the crafty dress? Or do you think McNease should have gone for something more glamorous?

I bet this girl gets a bloody good job in fashion! You gotta start coming up with innovative ideas at an early age if you wanna get in the fashion biz :) (or anything else to do with graphic design and engineering, or animation <<< that's the one I do)

She designed something that actually looks classy. It just doesn't look classy on her. Her upper body doesn't go well with strapless, but there are some girls who would look great in the dress. I guess she ate the 18,000 Starburst candies herself.

She designed and made a $1400+, non washable, highly flamable "TOP" to wear with a real skirt. Creative? Sure. Classy? Far from it.

No - stupid is not having the sense to calculate how much 18,000 wrappers was. Try about $1400 (approximately). Spending that much money...eating all that candy...then turning it into a dress...oh, sorry...TOP to a dress.
