I chose "Enjoy Life" because everyone should enjoy life while they have it but it doesn't prevent Alzheimer's Disease. My Dad had Alzheimer's. He was diagnosed very early at age 60, went out on disability from his job and was dead before he turned 65. Yes it is good to keep your mind active but Alzheimer's is a physical deterioration of the brain. You can see it on MRI results. It can't be stopped just by keeping your mind active. That may work with ordinary dementia but not Alzheimer's. There are medications like aricept that may help maintain your memory for a while but it's not a cure. As far as I know, there is no cure and no real way to stave off the progress of the disease.

Sorry for your father. I have also people like around . That it's just sad! They are no more the person we know. BUT what I have observed at the oldies over 85 years old, The ones keep his/herself in action, still OK! For me the answer is all above.

As we age, we all lose some of our mental abilities and memory. My mother lives with us and she is 89. She has "Dementia" and often repeats herself or forgets things but It's quite different from what my father had. Mum still does word puzzles, watches television, is able to dress and eat on her own. And she loves our dog and cats. Whatever you call it, it's sad to see the ones you love struggling to remember things. The saddest thing was when my Dad finally got to the point where he didn't know who I was. That really bothered me. It's really a bad disease and anything you can do to stave off the effects is good.

Worst side...They are able to become aggresive! Then...one can't keep them at home for the sake of the other members of the family!

Yes, Actually that happened with my Dad. I was at work when my Mum called to tell me that Dad had chased her out of the house so she was at a neighbors house. The neighbors had called the police because Dad was pacing in the street in his pajamas and robe. They took him to the hospital in an ambulance and he never came home after that. My Dad was a very mild mannered person. He would never have hurt a fly. It killed us to see him this way. It really is a cruel disease.
