Renting a car this summer? A budget travel website suggests you can save money by not buying the pre-paid gas when getting a rental car.
BudgetTravel.com reports:

BudgetTravel.com reports:
The next time you rent a vehicle, you will probably be encouraged to "pre-pay" your gas. Described as a great benefit, it’s a huge moneymaker for car rental companies because you will probably buy gas you never use.
Rental car companies are pushing the pre-paid gas option harder than ever.
It's tempting in such situations to think, "Wow, $2.90 a gallon is actually pretty cheap compared to $3.20 at the Shell station, so I should buy this full tank of gas ahead of time."

1. Pre paid gas.
2. Insurance.
Pre-paid gas is literally a tax on being lazy. Is it that hard to stop at a pump on your way back to fill it up? At my last job in the states, we used to rent 24' and 26' International Box Trucks/Stake Beds all the time. Those things cost over $100 to fill back up and took a good 10 minutes, but we still did it.
Insurance is a tax on ignorance. If you are renting a car, then it means you carry a major credit card. Your credit card already provides insurance and protection.
DIDN'T USE the WHOLE TANK!
Buy only what you use and you will be ahead!
