What's there to celebrate? The fact that we do not have freedom of speech anymore and that you need a permit if at all to protest a politician you don't like, that the TSA can molest you at will or make you go through the cancer machine or the fact that you are also now forced to buy health insurance or pay a hefty fine if you do not and get your life ruined by the IRS, yep the 4th today may as well be a Soviet May Parade.

It;s not trolling is the plain truth, we have become the land of the captive, now you want to party for partying sake go right ahead but don't tell me there is any good reason to celebrate because there isn't.

Even slaves during the slavery period had their soirees go ahead and have yours. But you are still no longer free and it's still the nation of the captive.

I'm fiercely patriotic to America, a devoted patron to Democracy. But, people today don't recognize the difference between patriotism and nationalism.

I do not understand all the money people spend on them and they can be dangerous. The really large ones are so crowed that makes it hard too attend. I have the luxury of watching medium sized fireworks off our deck. In fact all across the bay they go off they are just further away and so don't have quite the effect when they are closer. Your neck gets a work out just trying to decide where to look at the right time. I do not like the big noise ones. I discovered one year that a good place to see them was off the freeway in certain areas. It is better though to have someone else drive so you can look. It was very distracting and I did not want to keep my eyes on the road. The little kid in me kept wanting to look. Oh Oh Mama! That can lead to some very bad trouble.

Not really. I have a long-standing 4th of July reverence without staring dazed at a lot of pretty colors. My thoughts will be directed toward all those who are dedicating themselves to protecting our Independence. I will just enjoy the personal comforts of the day and give massive thanks to those who have made it possible--including much of my own particular forbears.

To me, the culmination of the celebration of this great country's birth has to have fireworks.. whether I'm there live at the beachfront in our local town display or watching New York's display on TV, I make sure it's a part of our personal celebration.

Although I live a few blocks from the Hudson River in NYC I'm watching the Macy's fireworks on TV because I can't deal with the crowds and all the people who block the view taking photos with their cell phones..

My wife and I lit off our own fireworks between 10:30 and 11:30 PM, July 3, so I guess that would mean 'yes.' My heart's not into 4th of July very much this year after that 'Benedict Arnold' we have for a Supreme Court Chief Justice sold the nation out to king Barack I.

Due to the EXTREMELY HIGH FIRE DANGER most fireworks displays have been canceled in our area. A 20 minute display was bought and delivered to our town but have been put in storage with plans for New Years Eve now. Summit County Utah has enacted emergence ordinances prohibiting discharge of all class C fireworks and open fires (outdoor smoking restricted too) until Oct 1 2012. Violations may result in fines and arrest with jail time.
