Forbes: Young Adults Without Facebook Accounts Are 'Suspicious': Agree?

Emily Yoffe of Slate.com said, "I’m fine with people not having a Facebook page if they don’t want one. However, I think you’re right. If you’re of a certain age and you meet someone who you are about to go to bed with, and that person doesn’t have a Facebook page, you may be getting a false name. It could be some kind of red flag."

FORBES.COM reports:
I used to say that if you’re not on Facebook, it’s possible you don’t actually exist. I think it's time to update that: Facebook abstainers will be labeled suspicious.

    Third option! WTF?!?!

Since when did it become 'suspicious' not to join in with the rest of the herd? I had a FB account for TWELVE HOURS before I ran screaming into the sunset. Their back-end software is SOME kind of scary shi'ite! Think the civilian equivalent of Carnivore.

That's right sports fans, Facebook's backbone is essentially the same software used by the government to track terrorists and drug kingpins!

And my failure to capitulate to that madness is 'suspicious'?! Three words: SCREW YOU FORBES!

I am not young but I am thinking of getting off FB.

Maybe I will just abandon my account like I did to MySpace.

Would that make you suspicious, if you are only thinking of doing it, that is not suspicious its only suspicious if you do not have one.
So you are now on very dangerous ground you will become suspiciously suspicious. If you cancel your FB account.
You got to make a joke of this because if you took this serious you would end up barking mad.
But then some people do think, someone actually on good money came up with this!

Yeah, pretty harsh words there I know. But I have experience with Facebook and a lot of the people who inhabit it. I hate Facebook and a lot of the people who inhabit it. Not so much the question, more like the subject in general...

I know what you mean. I don't have a Facebook account. My husband has one, but he uses it mainly just to keep in touch with people back home in the States.

He doesn't do any of the games, and he really hates the "repost this as your status if you care about this or that" thing. He only uses it for certain purposes and in small doses.

Yep. I only got one because my psycho ex urged me to, only to then accuse me of stalking when I caught her cheating. The ironic thing is that when I emediately recognized her as the freak she was and dropped her she actually couldn't handle it and began stalking ME and my NEW GF. I only knew her over the net, yet my new girl and I now live together. We STILL occasionally get harrassing messages from her.

Question: if you're having a one-night stand, does it really matter if you have their real name? There's no emotional attachment involved anyways. Yeah, it's rude and all, but you wouldn't have noticed their lack of facebook until after you part and will likely never see them again... why would you even try to add a one-night stand on facebook? Secondly, if you're at the point in a relationship where you'd reasonably go to bed with someone, then there would be other warning signs for false names that you should have noticed first.

Either way, there are perfectly reasonable young adults who don't have facebook. A lot of people deactivate their accounts when a change sets them over the edge, they just find it too invasive, or they just don't want to follow the crowd.
