Forbes: Young Adults Without Facebook Accounts Are 'Suspicious': Agree?

Emily Yoffe of Slate.com said, "I’m fine with people not having a Facebook page if they don’t want one. However, I think you’re right. If you’re of a certain age and you meet someone who you are about to go to bed with, and that person doesn’t have a Facebook page, you may be getting a false name. It could be some kind of red flag."

FORBES.COM reports:
I used to say that if you’re not on Facebook, it’s possible you don’t actually exist. I think it's time to update that: Facebook abstainers will be labeled suspicious.
forbes reports facebook exist update facebook abstainers labeled suspicious

    Third option! WTF?!?!

Since when did it become 'suspicious' not to join in with the rest of the herd? I had a FB account for TWELVE HOURS before I ran screaming into the sunset. Their back-end software is SOME kind of scary shi'ite! Think the civilian equivalent of Carnivore.

That's right sports fans, Facebook's backbone is essentially the same software used by the government to track terrorists and drug kingpins!

And my failure to capitulate to that madness is 'suspicious'?! Three words: SCREW YOU FORBES!

Please do not lump in Ron Paul with the rest.

Ron Paul is a backwards moron with horrible economic and foreign policies, whose hatred for the federal government, love for the states, and desire for unregulated, gung-ho free-market capitalism, makes me believes he not once ever bothered to read a history book, and still believes it is the 1800s and that the US doesn't have a couple hundred million people.

Omg i am so suspicious because i don't have an account on a stupid ass website!!! Facebook is a damn joke. My blog raises more of a red flag than me not owning a Facebook but whatever.

Suspicion always arises when someone doesn't go along with the crowd. People who think for themselves and refuse to follow blindly are not looked upon fondly.

I'm nott exactly sure what you mean. Are you saying that since most people voted "no" that people who go against the grain are not seen as suspicious?
I'm also curious to know the age of most of the voters. I can see where someone from older generations would feel differently from someone in their teens and 20s.

I have a kid that is not on Facebook because kids also talk to each other on message boards, and usually they're talking to people that are into the same things as they are. My son is into amine and thinks FB is dumb.

Definitely not 'suspicious' but 'smart'. Honestly, is facebook even that popular anymore? I've been noticing that people don't post as much as they used to. If they do post, it's mostly spam or an invite to some stupid game.

I used to love MySpace because I had reconnected with so many old friends after high school and stuff, from all three of the different states I lived in and schools I went to. Because of all of that, I had like almost 500 friends on MySpace, and I know every single one. About three years ago I got very bored with it and switched to Facebook cuz it is what my mature friends and family were on or had moved to, and the only people left on MySpace that ever were on was high school kids. I never deleted my MySpace, I just quit using it. I log into it very rarely, just every now and then, and I still have like 400 friends, but I am not kidding when I say, that there is literally not even ONE status update or anything on the news feed on my account. Apparently I am not the only one who just quit using it without deleting the account. It went downhill very quickly, I just thought it was funny how even with 400 people on my friends list, not one person had updated there thing in over six months. It makes me wonder if it is just my social group, or if anyone actually uses that site anymore at all!? Lol

So this is just Emily Yoffe's opinion basically. Honestly, the less time a 'young person' spends whoring themselves on facebook, the better.

Nope, it makes you smart. ;) I have a Facebook, but only so that I can keep my family and everyone current on our lives and updated with recent pictures of my kids and stuff, without having to spend time on the phone with those family members that I don't really feel like talking to, or don't have the time to sit on the phone with. It works great for that lmao

Facebook is essentially a profiling database for the government, if you are not on there they do not know much about you and are deemed suspicious. Will they force us to join Facebook?.....it wouldn't surprise me.

I have a FB for two reasons: talk to a friend that I cannot reach by phone, and post pictures. And I have only logged on about twice since I got my account.

Normally it indicates that the opposite...they tend to be hard working people who don't see the point of facebook. Heck, I use facebook mostly for family, etc. and I often don't see the point of facebook.

Suspicious? No. They are just the smart ones and would not patronize a site where a scumbag like zuckerberg, which first stole an idea of a site and then stole thousands and thousands of people information to pad the stolen new site, ends up calling anyone that use the site a very derogatory name like this

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/...

For me, this is just like walking into a local store, you shop around, maybe pick up something to buy and then the owner walks up to up and calls you some derogatory name.

I sure would not ever go back into that store again just because of that. It is the same as what zucker-ass has done when he called everyone that uses his site (correction, stolen site) the derogatory name that he did.

    Another thing;

I see alot that say "Well,I like to keep in touch with old classmates, friends, and my family"

Well here's a novel idea ( ha ): Pick up the phone, write an e-mail, write a regular letter ( if you can still write), better still, get off your lazy fat ass and go see your family and friends....damn, get a life folks. It really isn't that hard to do.

Beleive it or not, I can still do all those things I just mentioned above, mainly because I do have a real life and I sure do not need to go on a site such as facebook which was stolen by that thief and name calling zuckerberg

Yeah, the thought, that some people don't care to spread their personal information and photos to strangers from around the world ! For shame. And being on facebook is not exactly like a social security card, I'm on facebook under my nickname, in fact a variation of my nickname, my own mother couldn't know it was me.

Not suspicious, but they are missing out. Weird, all the anti-Facebook rants here. You can configure it to get just the info you want. Without it I'd have no idea what all my friends and family are doing. I'd never see pics of their kids, etc. I buy, sell & trade on trading post groups, other groups we discuss a certain topic or organize real life events, etc. Facebook is the next internet. If someone is not on there, it stops me in my tracks, so much you miss out on.

They make it harder and harder to control your privacy, and if they keep it up I am bailing. If my family members were not on there, I would already be gone.
