Emily Yoffe of Slate.com said, "I’m fine with people not having a Facebook page if they don’t want one. However, I think you’re right. If you’re of a certain age and you meet someone who you are about to go to bed with, and that person doesn’t have a Facebook page, you may be getting a false name. It could be some kind of red flag."

FORBES.COM reports:
I used to say that if you’re not on Facebook, it’s possible you don’t actually exist. I think it's time to update that: Facebook abstainers will be labeled suspicious.
forbes reports facebook exist update facebook abstainers labeled suspicious

    Third option! WTF?!?!

Since when did it become 'suspicious' not to join in with the rest of the herd? I had a FB account for TWELVE HOURS before I ran screaming into the sunset. Their back-end software is SOME kind of scary shi'ite! Think the civilian equivalent of Carnivore.

That's right sports fans, Facebook's backbone is essentially the same software used by the government to track terrorists and drug kingpins!

And my failure to capitulate to that madness is 'suspicious'?! Three words: SCREW YOU FORBES!

I don't really use my Facebook for much, and why would it make you suspicious, when surely on any of these social networking sites you an reinvent yourself to display to others. S that not suspicious

I deleted my facebook account about 3 months ago, when I found out that lawyers are using facebook to profile people for juries. And we are quite sure that the NSA has been spying on us at least since 2007, when they installed a specific super computer connected to Quest to monitor all communications.

Not everyone wants to be stalked or have their private business all over the net for all to see.

After the big scare in the news where we were all warned NOT to have facebook accounts because businesses now use them to judge potential employees, it is now supposedly suspicious NOT to be on facebook?

I think the word your looking for is "smart". Facebook is one of the largest, most useless timesucks on the planet. I've skimmed mine down to absolute minimum and will probably drop it in the next year or so.

That's completely stupid. If one does not want there privacy taken away and does not want to follow the heard then let them! Just because someone doesn't have a Facebook doesn't mean a thing it only means that they have better things to do. I have a Facebook but it's only to talk to family since they live far away.

Huh? Now I know why I cancelled my Forbes sub. I am glad I am not on facebook. It is the state of our country actually. I prefer my privacy. Besides... What fool would allow another person to get rich off of them without compensation? Not this one.

Facebook takes a lot of time, and there is a lot of expectation to adhere to certain social norms on it. What if you don't want to? What if you are different? What if - you're more into focusing on what you do rather than marketing yourself?

some people dont have time to spend on facebook. It's dumb to be suspicious! When i meet someone who does not have a facebook I think "good for them they have something better to do with their time."

If you're a teacher or anyone who deals with children under the age of 18 in a business, it's often required NOT to be a member of Facebook. Schools and business often require that you don't have a Facebook account.

Personally, I quit my Facebook account because THEY are shady!

Clearly, Facebook is another uber-capitalist experiment: can you make money out of friendship? Can you create communities free of national boundaries - and then sell Coca-Cola to them? Facebook is profoundly uncreative. It makes nothing at all. It simply mediates in relationships that were happening anyway. Futhermore, have you Facebook users ever actually read the privacy policy? It tells you that you don't have much privacy. Facebook pretends to be about freedom, but isn't it really more like an ideologically motivated virtual totalitarian regime? http://www.guardian.co.uk/tec...

Young adults (or ANY adult) without a Facebook account, are usually more inclined to join Internet forums that require more intellectual depth, as opposed to the superficial, and sometimes grammatically inept drivel, commonly seen on Facebook and Myspace pages.

First everyone was expected to drive cars, then everyone was expected to have phones, then internet and now facebook! This basically says a billions of people who don't have a facebook account are 'suspicious'. It's not a crime to not have facebook, it took 3 months of coaxing for me to make a facebook account, and I hardly put any personal details on there anyway. Also, a majority of facebook accounts are fake, renewed accounts or for pets, and that's why facebook shares are failing dismally!

That's stupid. Everybody's acting like facebook is the best thing that has ever happen and that's not true. I have a facebook account and the stuff that some people post dont make any sense. And I hate to cancel, because that is how I keep in touch with my sister and brother on my biological father side.

"If you’re of a certain age and you meet someone who you are about to go to bed with, and that person doesn’t have a Facebook page, you may be getting a false name. It could be some kind of red flag."

That's probably about one of the stupidest statements I've ever heard. Is this idiot saying a person can't put a false profile on Facebook? She must be that bimbo doing the State Farm commercial. If she seen it on the internet, it had to be true.
