For my daughter's birthday cake, I like buying a sheet cake from the grocery store. It's inexpensive and I can go to town decorating it without having to bake it myself!

should always make your child a cake from scratch and maybe let them help they would appreciate it more and have fun making it it would cost less to buy ingredience seperate as you can make more also its nice to be able to experiment with different mixtures and your own creativity

I've eaten very few bakery cakes that tasted better than what I make here at home. And a lot of the time, I feel like the frosting is the dealbreaker. Seems like it's either too sweet or too heavy or too something.

I'm not real fussy, I will make one if I have time. Often its last minute so I grab one from the store. My mom does custom cakes if she has a bit of head notice

I always made my cakes from a mix with added extras to tweek the cake. Professional bakery cakes are expensive and I never felt like either of my sons would care one way or the other. I imagine had I asked them if they prefer we buy less presents for them, so we can get the fancy cake, they would not have went for it. There is a time and a place for fancy cakes though.

I would get it at a bakery everytime but my wife actually makes it from scratch. Well, she's only done it twice since my son is only two so it may not last.

By "Bakery" I mean the local grocery store. We previously paid $$$ for custom cakes at a chic cake place. Now chains like Ralphs, Albertsons, Pavillions, etc... have great cakes at prices.

When I was a kid, my mom always made me a cake from a mix, and I was never disappointed. It was always the highlight of my birthday. (Even more so than the presents.)

I like cake from the bakery , but I also like making a cake from scratch it taste better then the mix I think making the cake from scratch is more special because who ever you are making the cake for the person will appreciate you a lot more because you put so much effort into it

A good store bought cake can save a lot of time. I rarely make homemade sugar cookies because of the time and effort it takes. It's the same with a cake.

More often than not, I would find myself going to a bakery. When I was working, I could only find time to make my OWN cakes on a very rare basis.

I like a nice cake from a good bakery, and I will tell you why.

At one of my birthday parties, the cake was home-made. You almost had to cut it with a chain saw, so no one ate very much of it. What was left was thrown out in the yard for the birds.. and they did eat it. Unfortunately for them, they were so heavy that they were unable to fly away for hours.

Also, a birthday cake is one of the most unsanitary foods on the planet, but everyone cannot wait to partake of it even after it has been spit on by blowing out the candles.

I disagree about birthday cakes being unsanitary. I have blown out a few candles in my time, and I do not ever recall having to spit to do it.

It really doesn't matter all the kids are thinking about is if the cake has enormous amount of sugar and the frosting. Personal as long as their Is a cake it's a party. Both shows that you care. Yes baking from scratch or a mix can be fun something you can do with your child but some people just can't bake. Do whatever you can afford in the moment , that you won't regret.
