One Florida lifeguard swam a hundred yards past his guard station's zone to save a man who was drowning. And what was his reward? A pink slip. Will he get his job back? The Lifeguard contractor's management is reviewing the decision. Do you think it's ridiculous... or should people follow the rules?

ABCNEWS.GO.COM reports:
'We're reviewing everything that has occurred, and we will either concur with that or we will override what happened based on what we find out,' said Jeff Ellis.

While he did a good job, there's a reason they have zones. I wouldn't fire him or anything, but it was very dangerous and they could have lost two lives for that risk. It was a good deed but a lot of things were risked for it to happen and as a safety issue, they'd probably have to have some disciplinary action, but firing him is a bit too far...

So, he should have stayed at his post and let the person drown? I understand there are rules for a reason-but there's also something called "the exception to the rule". This would fall in that category.

While they are in a firing mood, they need to fire the person who fired the lifeguard for saving a human life.

They think THIS is bad PR just imagine how the press would have raked them over the coals if the life guard DIDN'T bother to help and a person died because of he “rules”.

But something tells me this was a lose lose situation for the lifeguard, as he probably would have got the sack for NOT helping and bringing bad press to the company…lol

Another case of damned if you do damned if you don’t.

The man whose life was saved should be up in arms about it as well! Life is precious no matter what "zone" you are in.

Saving the man's life was heroic, swimming a hundred yards fast enough to do it was Olympic. Give the man a raise.

    In the afterlife
    Man: Hey, i know you.
    Lifeguard: Who?Me?
Man: Yes, you are the one who did nothing to save me while was drowning. Why didn't you save me?
Lifeguard: Sorry bro, you weren't in my zone.
    RIDICUOLUS!!!

He's a lifeguard, and a lifeguard is a person that saves lives. If you don't want him to save lives, why did you hire him in the first place?

LMAO Welcome to a Republican run state. Nothing makes sense here folks with a con running the place. Now you can see it for yourself.

I am so sick of people losing their jobs for doing the right thing. His boss sould be fired for if anyone listened to him many more would be dead in a field trained to save lives.
HE was offered his job back but kicked it back in his boss's face. GOOD.

I hate to be this guy, but... Both major parties are so regulatory that this same thing could have happened in California, or NY, it is a regulation thing not a party thing. I would bet that the zones are in place to keep it "fair" and by stepping outside of his zone he presented unfair competition to the slightly less competent life guard who was supposed to be watching that zone. My point is don't blame one party when they both do it.

Cons run this state and that county and it is all about money to them. I blame their greed getting in front of saving lives. Competition? LMAO you bet. Right where the con wallet starts are the dividing lines.

Your argument makes less sense, how does anyone make money by the man drowning? It sounds like unnecessary unionist rules that hurt this life guard. My point still stands that send and republicans do this same silly stuff.

LMAO no union dear just Republicans milking the system for more money at the cost of lost lives. Think of it as a con death panel.

You really should look into such lobbyist groups wrote the major addendums to obamacare, it is shameful how much money is gonna be made by drug companies. Obama care is just the medical version of sopa, it is big money paying off politicians to get their way.

pretty stupid, but who the hell is going to look away while someone is drowning or on fire or worse! shall we just stand there and watch? hopefully someone does something? you know, that life-guard should've call the coast guard, and tell'em "I can't help him, it's not my in zone!"

Well I can almost guarantee you this guy is going to be offered a much better job somewhere else, where he is appreciated!
