Donna Chen was walking her dog Barney along State Road 758 in Sarasota when she was struck and killed by a drunk driver.

Barney, injured in the incident, took off, and ended up in the Gulf
of Mexico. There, he was found and rescued by a kayaker who happened to
be filming his fishing expedition at the time.

ended up taking him out to a little lake and my son, who was about 2 or 3 at the time got to let him go into the reeds. I was very happy I got to him in time. It's a very busy area, and I'm really surprised he didn't get run over. It was a good feeling. I also volunteered at the local wildlife center for 2 years and I guess you could say we rescued local animals and rehabilitated them until they were ready to be released back into their habitat.
Adopt a pet from the local shelter rather than the mall or puppy breeder!
But I have knocked on my neighbor's door to tell her her blind and deaf dog was outside
I rescued a bird from strangulation by a plastic 6-pack binder.
A friend and I were driving back from his sister's house when he tells me he sees something in the road, so I slow down and stopped in front of the biggest turtle I have ever seen outside of a zoo. We got out of the truck and decide to put it away from the road so it didn't get hit, well as soon as we reached to pick it up we realized what kind of turtle it was. Let me tell you, not all turtles are slow. After nearly losing fingers repeatedly, I grabbed a piece of wood out of the back of the truck and tapped the turtle on the nose, and it grabbed that which allowed us to pick it up and carry it to safety. I didn't argue when it refused to give up the piece of wood.

I was at my girlfriend's house and happened to look at a coffee can sitting next to the couch In it I see a baby turtle in cold water half buried under McDonald's fries. I picked it up and held it in my hands to warm it. I told her nephew that I wanted it and he shrugged it of as he had lost interest. I took it home, but sent it to my mom's cuz my house wasn't warm enough for it. She had it for about another seven years before it got too big to keep and they released it near a pond in the cemetery near them. It is still alive and well as of last summer, and now with a mate. He also turned out to be a snapping turtle.
Shortly after I got the dog I have now, he snuck out of my house while I was at work and went back to the apartment where he used to live. The upstairs neighbors called the police and the ones that moved into my friend's old apartment didn't know who he was so they didn't do anything, well by the time I got home, I saw the commotion but didn't stop until I got home, and talked to another friend, it was his sister that moved into the apartment, and when they described the dog I knew it was Balto, I was just leaving to go get him when animal control pulled up. He started giving me hell for letting the dog loose and telling me how he was such a hero for not letting the police shoot him [mind you I counted at least 8 officers when I went by, to one shepard mix, l have a pic of him on my profile] I snapped on him about this and explained the exact reason he was there and demanded that I be contacted next time. I was informed that the next time he made the police feel threatened he would be shot, I ended this idea when I turned it on them and said then perhaps I should shoot the next police officer that pulled me over and was intimidating. Foolish thing to say. perhaps, but ever since, anytime he slipped out, the police didn't even leave the station, they had my number on file and I was immediately called. Its a damn good thing I didn't see any police after I went to the pound to get him, there was no excuse for him being as badly beaten as I found him. And no I wasn't irresponsible, he is very smart and was able to force partially opened windows open, or get the storm door to that house open if I were to have fallen asleep without closing the front door.
Yes, several years ago while fishing behind Cape Kennedy among the Mangrove creeks and rivers my husband & I came across a really weak Pelican...too weak to fly away as we approached in our boat. We noticed that the bird was trying to eat some small injured fish, but the gullet bag under the Pelican's bill was torn and the fish in its beak would just fall out through the hole. We were able to net the bird and once we got it in the boat, using a large fishhook as a needle and monofilament as thread, we were able to stitch up the torn opening in the bird's gullet. We also gave it a dozen or so small pilchards (bait fish) that we were using as bait on our fishing expedition. We released the Pelican, moved away and watched as it attacked a school of small bait fish... This time, none of the fish fell out of the bird's throat and it was able to eat.
