Finland declares broadband internet as a legal right!

MUGEN ::: 無限 October 14, 2009 17:53:08

Finland! Not only they have great universal health care—including dental—great public daycare, and great public education at all levels, but now they also got broadband as a legal right provided to every citizen. And not
any crappy broadband.

The policy will be active in July 2010, when every Finn will get a one-megabit connection. But that's just an intermediate step towards their final goal: By 2015, everyone will have a 100Mbps—yes, a hundred megabits per second—available.

Damn these commies and how they oppress their people eh?

I guess they can do this because they're not $12 trillion in debt. Maybe our politicians can learn a thing or two about how other countries manage their finances.

    Commies? Finland?

But have you ever calculated what could be done with US taxpayer money if only the US government would reduce its military budget to 110% of the second largest military spender? Although I have not actually done the math, I my rough guess is that we could not only get Internet for every man, woman, and child, but probably universal health care as well for the money left over. Anybody out there who can do the actual math? I would love to hear the exact figures.

Nice and to think my great grandfather left Finland to come to the US I wonder if he was alive today if he would of still made that same decision. I cant wait til I get the money to visit Finland and see what its like first hand

when he left it was due to their bad economy and social standards.

That was the case with all European countries. That's why so many Italians, Spanish and etc moved to US, Argentina, Chile and etc.

Europeans however know how to progress. We have forgotten.

He left in 1902. and to be honest I dont know why he left neither does my family I dont think, but my best guess would be because he wanted a better life or something along those lines. It sounds like now tho Finland is doing better than the US in some areas. I would be more than proud to live their as a Finn even tho I do have only a small percentage of Finnish in me. but I recognize it very much and am proud to know where my roots come from :)

Score I wish it wasn't so expensive to move to Europe. It's sad we left Europe to avoid tyranny and now some of us want to go back to avoid tyranny. Digressing though.

We could, we should, just stay here and make required changes. To begin with we can get rid of the marginalized Confederate-Conservative Party of the Neo-nazis, Skin-heads, and KKK, as well as the Fundamental Christian right-wing whack-a-doodles. 19% of Americans. These are 100% of our problems now - the Corporate-Fascist who nearly destroyed this country after a 3rd and hopefully final time of the failed theory of "Trickle-down Economics." What the Fins have is a Socialist-Democratic Government that uses the Social-Justice and Humanity as the bottom line, not the Almighty-dollar of the Fascist. Let's establish our own new Government base, right to left; Progressive-Democrats, Liberal-Democrats, Socialist-Democrats. this form of Government, which is really of the People, by the People, for the People as our founding fathers wanted for us. The PEOPLE! liberal-democrats socialist-democrats form government people people people founding fathers people

Kinda in the process at the moment but things are a bit shaky. But I don't like where I am from and don't want people to know, or the few stalkers I've had to know and try to find my family or myself.

It's not communism, it's socialism. There is a difference. But it does make me think about moving to Finland. I wonder if it's terribly difficult to learn the language.

Yeah - it is related to Attila the Hun, and the Huns (Hungarian) Language. Has very little relatives, in European or Asian languages. But the Fins are pretty neat people.
And you are 100% correct. Communism is closer related to Capitalism than any form of Socialism, particularly a Socialist-Democracy. Most American people have never had Economics 101. I guess, or Social-Political training. form socialism socialist-democracy american people economics 101 guess social-political training

I lived in holland for 4 years. The system is Democracy for the well of the people and ofcourse that has to include some socialistic characteristics such as:
-Free education through the end of college.
-Semi universal health care (you have both private and public option and i experienced the public option first hand. Flawless)
    -Senior citizens fully covered

Ah Finland settled by the Swedes. Captured by Tzar Nicholas. Became a welfare state in 1990. Mostly agrarian with small urban centers. It does have industry. After living in Colorado for five years I hate snow, so I probably will not pay Finland a visit. I still cannot see the internet as a right. To me it is a luxury.

What does all this have to do with the Finland's government/system being more competent than ours?
