I hate using the word phony since in it's original state, Feng Shui is an honorable part of the eastern religion and way of life. It always seems silly when westerners try to adopt it. I have a couple of friends who talk it up a great deal and they always sound phony and pretentious. Oddly enough, if I traveled to the Orient I would probably find it a beautiful way to look at their surroundings and how the people come to understand their existence "there".

I don't believe in the spiritual or complete practice of Feng Shui. I do believe the physical orientation for decoration has practical and aesthetic value.

It works. One of the Feng Shui ways of decoration is to have a mirror facing the front door,the bigger the better.It is supposed to attract money to the household. Within a few days I had money coming to me from all over the place,so it does work and is not at all phoney.

It was many years ago that I studied feng shui and was surprised to discover that I was already intuitively using it's principles. Studying helped me to improve on my methods and understand more about why I was doing it in the first place.

I don't know the particulars of it but I do know it probably has some truth in it. I look around my room and I know that if I moved things in certain places then I wouldn't feel as comfortable in it.

Actually it's a lot of common sense. I am an Interior Designer and fact is it is nicer to hear a bit of running water somewhere for relaxation, a cleaner house is better and sharp object starring you in the face are a bit uncomfortable for a lot of people and colors always play a part in anyone environment...that's just fact.

Yep - :) I had that sense intuitively and it helped me a lot with my design work. I can contribute a lot of my success in the interior design field to it. So many people in the same career have book learning but no instinct for combining necessity, organization, beauty and flow.

I'm rather surprised at how many people call it phony.

Maybe not fascinating to some, but hardly phony.

There's a lot to be learned from it, and it isn't as simple as designing an asian room. You can not only make it more appealing to the eye, but alter the flow in a way that helps promote harmony and relaxation. And if you try it yourself, you save on an expensive interior designer.

I hope the people voting phony at least bothered to learn about it before voting. Then again, this is SodaHead...

I have a great interest in interior design, and while I don't believe in fung shui to the point that some do (one of my friends mothers' was so into it she was hanging giant crystals up in various corners of his room, annoying), I do believe there is a way to organize a room and it's flow, and apply color and decor that is more than just pleasing to the eye but actually gives a sense of peace and harmony.

Maybe not fascinating but it certainly isn't completely invalid. There is a certain amount of peace or attractiveness you find in your environment. As to whether that effects good or bad luck, I wouldn't put my money on it
