Looking for a new furry friend? You can get one for just $15 -- if you don't mind a few extra pounds.

Fat cats are on sale for $15 apiece or two for $20 at the Capital Area Humane Society in Columbus, Ohio, The Columbus Dispatch reports.

Sound ridiculously cheap? It is. It normally costs $70 to adopt an adult cat from the Humane Society -- but these tubby tabbies need homes more than others.

"The best thing we can do for them is get them out of here and running through someone's home so they can get some exercise," development manager Mary Hiser told the Dispatch. "We want them to have a healthier lifestyle."

The cats didn't get fat at the Humane Society -- they came in that way, thanks to overfeeding and lack of exercise. And sadly, more and more cats given up for adoption are obese.

"Some people think it's cute," Hiser said. "They don't realize it can lead to their cat needing insulin shots or having early heart failure."

my friend had 2 of the fattest cats I think Ive ever seen now these cats loved to climb and they loved to jump off things and they would do this repeatly and it was funny becuase every once in a while you'd hear a loud thund a meow then a few seconds another thud (from the other cat)

And I'm the only one in the world today that can fix that naturally. Geez though. My mom works 12:30 - 8 Tuesday-Thursday (3 days), my dad: some 20 miles away (work) 7 pm - past 3 a.m, no sister here or anything, just 1-2 dogs, no money for cellphone stuff here (can't even afford regular cable right now seemingly) and no landline of my own. Live in Ohio too. Can I help you online?? Will you be willing to do and change what I say?? Hmm, maybe I can live down there. That would mean moving about 2.5 hours south

I always feel sorry for the cat. Some cats get fat due to illness, and I understand that it's difficult to exercise a cat. Owners don't tend to be able to take them on walks like they can their dogs. However, feeding a healthy, low-calorie diet, at the correct portion amount is important for all cats, but particularly for those cats that tend to gain weight more easily than others. And, while we can't exercise them as easily, some of the lazier cats still react to teasing and playing with feathers, strings and whatnot, so that may be an option to keep them a little more active than they would otherwise.

There are reasons for cats to get that fat that has nothing to do with the amount of food they eat. My big cat weighs 30 lbs and I thought he was big, but no where near like the one in the picture.

Sure they look cute, but pet owners really need to make sure their pet stays at a healthy weight. There are some cases where the animal just tends to be fat, but it's usually the fault of an irresponsible owner.

!#$$#!$# it! I meant to say UNHEALTHY. These fat cats are a heart attack and stroke waiting to happen. People who let their animals get to that point don't deserve to have them in the first place. My ex-boyfriend's mother is like that. She would feed my ex-boyfriend's Jack Russell anything to the point where she'd look like a stuffed sausage. We couldn't get it through her head that she was making the little dog unhealthy, and I didn't want to see this dog suffer and die before her time. Some people you can't talk to about anything, especially when it comes to animals and their health.

they may be cute but it's unhealthy. If you love your fat cat put it on a diet. It is hard on their frame and can cause complications later in their life.
