If given the choice between getting a sunburn on your face or wearing a Face-Kini, like the ones pictured below, which option would you choose? Apparently, the Chinese don't trust their suntan lotions, which make the best choice for avoiding a facial sunburn.

Yeah, but see a lot of asians don't want tans because they think paler skin is more attractive. I don't know why, I don't agree since I don't find either more attractive than the other (just the tanner's preference, you can say), but I'm fully agreeing with you there. Won't help.

So if this becomes a trend in China, I guess rickets among children and all the other lesser known Vitamin D deficiencies (osteoporosis, certain cancers, even increased cardiovascular disease) may also become more commonly seen. I understand that pale skin is desirable in some ethnic groups; that's a cultural phenomenon in many places. But there are health consequences to these choices.

Taking Vitamin D supplements might counteract the effects of covering one's skin from head to toe but it isn't quite the same as what happens in the body when the skin is exposed to sunlight.

Those are hideous! Who wants to walk around looking like an alien? And of course suntan lotions aren't going to work. To prevent sunburn you need sun BLOCK and sunscreen, and need to apply it 15 - 30 minutes BEFORE going into the sun.

It's called sunscreen. If I can manage to find a kind to work on my pasty skin, they can too. I frequently use Asian beauty products because they're really the only thing tailored to keeping fair skin that way. Facekini's are ridiculous!

I think the Chinese may wear the face kini for more reasons than the sun. They hardly ever see the sun due to the smog or yellow cloud that covers their sky.
