Given the problems that non-indigenous species reek when they escape or are discarded into the wild, like pythons in the Everglades, I think personal ownership of such animals should be completely banned. It is not good for the poor animal and it can spell disaster for our shared environment. People who want to experience wild animals should either see them in the wild or go to a zoo. Isn't that part of what zoo's are for, anyway?

I can't support or agree with the "exotic pet" industry, for many reasons. I can understand the desire to own one, but that is no reason to support a cruel industry.

If you want them you can have them as long as they are dangerous. However, I'll stick to the traditional dog, thank you. german shepard

I think it's fine but there should be some sort of licensing method. I mean, most people are responsible to a degree but I wouldn't want any amateur living next to me owning a venemous snake or something.
I'm not allowed pets anyway but I'd want a tiger and monkeys and a beluga whale :D

But all the same, there are people who should NOT have pets. I volunteer in an animal shelter, and it's amazing how many people who get pets grow tired of them and let them go, or bring them to a shelter where there is no space and people have to put them down.

I think the zoo is much better for the majority of people.

They should not be allowed to own as pets. They need to be happy and free to live the way nature intended. In some States(mine is one) you can't sell Exotic pets anymore. I knew someone who had a pet shop where he sold nothing but snakes, all kinds of Lizards,Turtles and Tarrantulas. He was in business for years. He told me he can't get them anymore like he used to.,It's getting harder all the time because of the law not allowing it.He went out of business last year after 20 years.I'm glad they are getting strict about allowing people to own exotic pets. It's not fair to them.

It's just a complex issue-- if an animal can be happy as a family pet, and the 'owner' is able to take proper care of him/her, it's possibly okay. Problem is, most people who go for this sort of thing fail miserably. Animals aren't vanity items-- they're living creatures.
