I've been noticing that girls seem to use the exclamation point more so in conversation than boys. This made me start thinking about conversations in real life. I think girls tend to be more exclamitory (new word: use it!) than boys.

What do you think?

More exclamitory, and here is my theory as to why...

Women know that they can get away with more, because there is less of a chance of them getting punched out.
Real men don't hit women.
That being said, some women take advantage of that and talk uncontrollably and even go as far as yelling and/or getting bossy.

In writing sure. It is probably considered too emotional and stylistic for guys in general. In real life conversation not such a distinction, ime.

Though I agree that many women find it neccessary to push themselves to the brink of heavy exclamation usage, I found out (the hard way) that I catch more bees with honey than with vinegar. Trust me, I still put my exclamitory hat on now and again, but I am really beginning to prefer the laid back version of myself.

Do I fail at being a girl?

Earlier today someone had to point out that I didn't use an exclamation when I made thewrit's rave party -- apparently this made me seem unenthusiastic. I had to go back to edit the question to fix the error. T_T

I wish I knew that girls were supposed to be more exclamatory before this affected my gender identity...

Women use the exclamation point for emphasis and to make their sentences more interesting. Maybe men just don't care that much.

We use "!" a lot more than guys do beacuse they can't find it on the keyboard :D (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... muahahaha!!!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure girls are more exclamitory than boys... But I personally am more of a ... person. Don't ask me why, I just am... Mabye it's because I'm never done talking..? Who knows!
