Emma Watson Hangs With Dog After Pink Dye Job: OK or No Way?

We're pretty sure this color doesn't occur naturally. "Harry Potter" actress Emma Watson was spotted walking a friend's dog after it was dyed a bright pink, The Daily Mail reports, and animal lovers are crying foul.

emma watson pink dog

The 1-year-old bichon frise, Darcy, was reportedly dyed pink via a $140 beetroot-based semi-permanent dye treatment at Groom Dog City in London. While Groom Dog City's owner called the treatment harmless, vet Emma Milne isn't convinced.

"Dogs are not playthings; they are not dolls. If you are putting a chemical on a dog’s fur, you could cause that dog problems. Even if the dye is completely safe -- and the dye that Emma Watson has used should be absolutely fine -- you are still altering the way the dog looks and smells to other animals," she told the Mail.

Groom Dog City Owner Stuart Simons disagreed, telling the Mail: "All the dyes I use are completely animal-friendly. They are made from vegetable dye. I wet the dog, rub it on like a shampoo, leave it for five minutes and then wash it off. Because Darcy is white, it takes really well. She is a very calm dog, absolutely lovely, and she enjoys her groom."

Watson explained on Twitter that her friend was raising money for breast cancer awareness -- hence the pink color. Do you have a problem with pink pooches? Or was Watson's friend just supporting a good cause?

It wasn't even her dog, so you can't blame Emma Watson. Dyeing a dog isn't something I'd do, but at least it was safe dye. I just don't see any point in dyeing a dog. And beet juice is harmless. People are making too big of a deal about this.

I think its okay, as far as Emma is concerned, she was just taking her friend's dog for a walk. She was doing her friend a favor. As for the friend, I say foul. There are other ways to raise money for her cause than the possibility of putting an animal at risk. Regardless of what the groomer says, the vet knows the animals best, and what may be non-toxic for us, like say chocolate for example, is not non toxic for pets. My example of chocolate can make a dog sick and even causing them to die. The animal may not suffer from the dye job right away, but with a permanent dye, it may cause issues later on in the animal's life.

There's a problem with your statement. Being gay is not stupid. But using gay to mean stupid is.

The problem with this kind of thinking is it means that if you have the money to do it, then you should be allowed to buy slaves should you so wish. Money does not exempt people from the same standards that the rest of us must adhere to.

I agree but with more money though comes more power but it is her money so really she can do what she wants as long as its legal.

U are definitely correct, I really don't think she will do anything illegal like that, I mean, just getting a few maids and butlers and cooks won't hurt anything though, so, yea, nothing illegal!

Any dye is toxic. Those who paint their pet are nuts, they shorten up the animals lives. This should be called "animal abuse" because an animal may die prematurely because of this dye.

How very dumb of the owners!
  • Vitalani FairLady 2012/06/26 13:43:02

Not all dye is toxic, and what proof do you have that this will shorten their lifespan? By your logic refusing to spay/neuter should be animal cruelty too. -_-
  • FairLady Vitalani 2012/06/26 17:30:03
    FairLady
OMG spaying and neutering is a whole different business. I course I neutered my dog.

Well, go ahead dye your dog if you want to. I will not do it to mine. I think it's cruelty.
  • Vitalani FairLady 2012/06/26 18:19:48
    Vitalani
I compared it to spaying and neutering because you claimed it would shorten their life span....spaying or neutering increases life span....
I'm not going to dye any dog, it's stupid. Besides, she was black. You still haven't presented any proof...

Not whatever, I'm genuinely curious. Where did you get the information that vegetable dye will decrease a pet's life span? Or did you lie?
  • FairLady Vitalani 2012/06/26 23:25:53
    FairLady
Vegetable dye? All the dyes are chemical. And like someone here said - it's weird. Dog is not a dress.

    Vitalani
Yes, vegetable dye. No, they are not. You are flat our wrong. I for one use a chemical free, non toxic, edible, beet dye for my hair.

All the power to you. I do not dye my hair (don't need to).

Not all dyes are toxic. There are safe dyes - like what they claim to have used on the dog - that are truly natural. Beet juice is a good, non-toxic dye, for example.

First off its not her dog, second if the method they used on that particular dog is safe why complain? If it was harmful and could cause problems to the dog that makes sense, but this does not seem like the case.

So... the question is kind of confusing. The way it's being asked, it's like SodaHead is asking if it was okay for Emma to be hanging out with her friend's dog. Besides, the dog's not even hers, so why is Emma being blamed for it being pink?

Dogs are ment to be companions not your own personal barbie doll (or dog) think about how the toxic fumes of the hairdye can be affecting the poor animals brain! It is just not right! Plus who the hell in their right mind would want a pink dog?
  • Rachel Gupriela 2012/06/27 01:31:07

They used vegetable juice (supposedly) to dye the dog, not hair dye in the common sense.

It's a Bichon they have hair and it can be died just like any human dies their hair and it doesn't hurt the dog. Get a grip, worry about real stuff in life. Hey, far better to have a pampered pet then one that is abused. So otherwise...butt out.
