Economic Illiterate Mitt Romney Says Bank Of America Protesters Too Young 'To Really Understand' Economy

Mitt Romney said the protesters rallying against Bank of America in Charlotte this week are too young "to really understand how the economy works."
“Unfortunately, a lot of young folks haven’t had the opportunity to really understand how the economy works, and what it takes to put people to work in real jobs, and why we have banks, and what banks do," Romney told WBTV in Charlotte, according to National Journal. "It's a very understandable sentiment if you don't find a job, and you can’t see rising incomes. You're going to be angry and looking at someone to blame."

Romney said the protesters' blame should be targeted at "the president and the old school liberals that have not gotten this economy turned around." He made a not-so-subtle 2012 push, insisting he's the one who "understands how to get the economy going again."
The protesters -- which included Occupy Wall Street activists, environmentalists, pro-union advocates and victims of home foreclosures -- held massive demonstrations outside of Bank of America's shareholder meeting in Charlotte on Wednesday. Occupiers saw the event as a trial run ahead of September's Democratic National Convention, which will have an increased police presence thanks to a City Council ordinance from earlier this year.
national convention increased police presence city council ordinance earlier year

In fact, the arrests have already begun. On Monday, three activists were taken into police custody for carrying a banner criticizing the bank, according to organizers who discussed the matter on a Tuesday call with reporters. The city of Charlotte has authorized a broad array of unconventional police powers for the bank shareholders' meeting on Wednesday. The American Civil Liberties Union has criticized the preemptive crackdown for permitting the arrest of anyone carrying a backpack, purse or briefcase with the intent to conceal anything on a long list of prohibited items, ranging from weapons to markers to bicycle helmets. Those same police powers will be in effect for September's DNC Convention.
"Part of it is testing those out," explained Tammy Shapiro, an activist with Occupy Wall Street. She came to Charlotte from New York City to participate in the protests. She called the new police powers "ludicrous." "There's the sense that we are going to challenge what these laws are."

The new police powers were authorized by a City Council ordinance earlier this year that also banned camping in Charlotte, effectively razing the Occupy Charlotte community.

Three top execs have been forced to 'resign' from JP Morgan this week for losing $2 billion dollars in schemes that echo the crap that happened in 2008. Surely they were old enough and clued-in enough to understand the economy?

Banks need to be re-regulated, the VOLKER RULE NEEDS TO BE ADOPTED AND THE TOO BIG TO FAIL BANKS NEED TO BE BROKEN UP AS THEY ARE ALL CORRUPT, AS IS THE CAPTURED REGULATORY SYSTEM THAT FAILS TO MAKE THEM ACCOUNTABLE. THE REVOLVING DOOR BETWEEN BIG BANKS AND GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE SHUT.

It is clear that the Democrats rely on the useful idiots, and that is why they prey on the young. That is why they have taken over the schools and universities. Obama was the head of a capital firm, Obama has never had a real job besides a politician from a failed state.

Until democrats can explain how higher taxes, higher regulations, higher energy costs, over powerful trial lawyers, over powerful unions, higher health care costs, paying people to not work and be productive, taking from those that will actually use the capital to be productive, less money for R&D;, less money for growth, or any other horrible job killing democrat policy helps the economy, or the middle class democrats have no credibility AT ALL. Even college students can figure that out.

Old mittens does not only not understand the 99% of us, but he doesn't even understand the free market. He thinks along with the rest of wall street, that their profits should be privatised, but their losses should be socialized. Those 99% should divy up the money to save wall streets asses.

The truth according to the right wing. But say it was the truth what difference does it make. What kind of a job has Romney had? He was a CEO of Bain, and Bain was a Company that came in and took vulnerable companies, loaded them with debt, and gave huge bonuses to the CEO, and others. Took all the assets, and then made the company pay off the debt. By that time the company couldn't pay off the debt, and went into bankruptcy. Of course all the workers lost their jobs, health insurance, and pensions. Then Bain went off to plunder the next company, just like the pirates in the 16th century. Maybe you call that a good job, but i call it thuggery.

I am actually smart enough to look at europe failing and see that the democrats are still somehow pushing for the same faiiled policies that destroyed europe. You on the other hand, are simply a selfish and petty thief.

how's that "over regulation" working out for ya?
THIS is what comes of deregulation. and the Republicans [not to mention JP Morgan's CEO] want even less.

make no mistake - another crisis is coming. once again, it will be due to the deregulation ushered in by Reagan and compounded by every president [yes, Dem's too] since.
contrary to your post above, it was not the government that caused WALL STREET to crash [unless you mean the deregulation caused it but somehow I doubt that's what you meant].

Mitt Romney's biggest problem is not his conservativism. I believe it was his fellow Mormon Jon Huntsman who summed up Mitt by calling him a "well-lubricated weather vane." Romney has no principles at all. He changes his positions and his attitudes constantly, and "plays to his audience". When he speaks to college audience, his talks about healthcare (and his experience in Massachusetts, very liberal). When he speaks to yokels who don't read books or newspaper, he becomes one of them--short words, uncomplicated sentences, and "gut reactions" instead of intellectual. weather vane
