Earth Day Challenge: How Long Are Your Showers?

Living 2011/04/22 15:00:00
You!
Add Photos & Videos
In honor of Earth Day today, we challenge you to get out your stopwatch and take a three-minute shower.

Actually, the challenge is coming from actress Amy Smart, who has partnered with the Body Shop to convince people to take shorter showers.

"I don't know if it's three minutes but it's definitely not 10 minutes," Smart says of her own showers, according to USA Today. "I tend to take pretty quick showers. I've been working on environmental issues for 17 years."

Hmm ... if there's one thing we look forward to in the morning, it's a 10-minute, long hot shower (followed by a cup of coffee). Are you willing to sacrifice your shower time for Mother Earth?

    Use Speed Soap!
    - Sprays on in seconds! Speed soap is much faster than bar or liquid soap.
    - Shaving and hair friendly. Less to no more nicks or cuts.
    - Can help clear up some skin conditions.

Simply step into your warm shower.

    • Get your whole body wet, but not your hair.
    • Face away from the shower's spray.

    • Tilt your head back toward the water to get it wet, while simultaneously spraying speed soap on your front private area. Rub it in good.
    • Turn around toward the spray while reaching to pause the shower's spray or to aim it toward the wall.
    • Spray speed soap into your hand to do your rear private area. Rub it in good.
    • Rinse your hands, because that soap is now dirty.
    • Apply shampoo if you don't want to use the hair friendly speed soap.
    • Bend forward and spray some speed soap on your back and hair (if you choose to use it for your hair).
    • Stand up straight and spray speed soap on your face (close your eyes! :-) ), chest, stomach, thighs, arms, and armpits.
    • Hang up sprayer or put it aside.

    • Rub speed soap into your face and chest.
    • With your soapy hands wash your two feet and lower legs.
    • Rinse your feet so you won't slip.
    • Rub the speed soap in all over the rest of your body.
    • Rinse off the speed soap and shampoo, if you used shampoo instead of spee...

We have an outdoor hot and cold running shower. In the summer I always shower outdoors and just get wet, turn it off, soap up and scrub and then turn it back on to rinse off. I don't bother using a towel to dry because that makes more laundry. Air drying is just fine in the summer.

I stay in the shower until all of the hot water is cold. I don't care if I am wasting water. Water isnt going to run out anytime soon.

Mine are usually no more than 15 minutes. What's the point in taking a shower if it's only for 3 minutes? And no, I don't use only 1 sheet of toilet paper either!

My daily routine is not altered one bit by Earth-worshipers. As a hygienic person, I shower, shave, and brush my teeth. If dirty hippies want to be dirty, that is in character for them.

You can't wash your body, your hair and shave your legs in three minutes. I take pretty long showers.

I am stunned to see the arrogance displayed by so many of the people who put comments and are actually bragging about wasting water.

Usually around 10 mintues, a few more. But it depends if I'm shaving my legs or not. If I shave my legs, then its more around 20.

The length of my showers depends entirely on whether my girl is with me in the showerLOL.
A lot of the time she is: so the shower might be at least 25 minutes long :)

How do you think I made her "Mother" so many timesLOL?
So in my house, Mother comes before Mother Earth ROFL!! ;)

There are those people who can spritz themselves with a bit of water and a dash of Cologne and be ready to go. I'm more the type who needs a little more effort. I take showers to get clean, not to save the earth.
