Just don't drink anything heavy; vodka, tequila, or other liquor. Red wine is good for your health anyway, just stick to one glass and don't have it EVERY day.
Moderation is your friend, people.
(Keep in mind, I'm not promoting drinking while pregnant. I'm just saying it's NOT as big of a deal as long as some idiot doesn't frizock it up by binge-drinking to this news.)

According to five new Danish studies, drinking occasionally while pregnant may not be such a big deal after all.
Researchers took a look at more than 1,600 Danish women and their children, and compared kids born to nondrinkers to those who had mothers who could be categorized as light drinkers (1-4 a week), moderate drinkers (5-8 a week), or heavy drinkers (9+ a week). (Keep in mind that an alcoholic drink in Denmark is defined as 0.4 ounces of pure alcohol compared to 0.6 in the U.S.)
The scientists controlled for outside factors, such as smoking and the mother’s intelligence, and found that light or moderate drinking while pregnant did not have any noticeable impact on a child’s overall IQ, attention span, or self-control. However, the children of heavy drinkers did have considerably shorter attention spans compared to their counterparts.
Despite the growing evidence that light to moderate drinking during pregnancy is harmless, many doctors still strongly discourage the practice.
Dr. Jacquelyn Betrand, representative for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and co-author of three of the studies, told HealthPop: "This study doesn't change our recommendation. We have a long history that alcohol causes birth defects. Drinking during pregnancy is just not worth the risk."

OK in Moderation

My Dr (when I told her what I was craving) is actually the one that suggested I take a couple sips of my husband's or have a very small glass a week if I were craving it. My cousins had to come to my aid during the toasts at our other cousin's wedding because I was hugely pregnant and took tiny sips of champagne after a few of the toasts. My cousins are very big on "A little bit won't hurt" just like I am...some of the other people at the wedding....not so much.
We've seen ultrasounds from mothers who have had just a little alcohol and the baby was practically convulsing with adverse reactions.
Some people work from all angles to excuse the abuse of pre-born infants.
This seems like the next step in the attack. Someone must have figured pregnant mothers who drink and smoke might hurt the non-human argument for abortion, so it would be easier to say that these things don't hurt the baby while in smaller quantities.
No noticeable impact? Sure. That's the same thing they say about abortion when evidence suggests that abortion does increase a woman's risk of developing breast cancer. They can manipulate the data to get the results that they want. They're doing it with the 1600 Danish women like they did with abortion.
The least people can do is remain consistent, rather than pandering to the anti-smoking lobby. How this one is juggled I don't know. But stop making excuses, please, and just admit you know what you're doing and have weighed your interests above your baby's.
It is not worth the risk because the safe amount of alcohol for a pregnant woman has yet to be officially determined. And it probably won't be anytime soon due to lack of volunteers for a substantial study of this nature.
Notice that this study didn't say anything about FAS? How convenient.
One bottle of wine spread through an entire pregnancy isn't giving anyone FAS.
If you're binge drinking though then you need to have your kid taken away from you!
I'm not advocating going out and getting sloshed, but the US views alcohol negatively when controlled drinking isn't bad for babies in utero unless it's abusive drinking.
