Does youth mean lack of knowledge?

For those of you who know, I used to have my age shown (now I don't because I'm tired of people using it against me in a debate). It is very annoying, but why do certain people use age against someone to try and win the so called 'debate'? Is it necessary? Does age automatically make some uneducated or stupid? I suppose older people are the epitome of intelligence?

I'm 37, and I couldn't even count how many times people over about 50 on here have scoffed at my arguments because I was a 'kid'.

......(on the other hand) youth has a knowledge,,,,that life 'plows' out of all those old, logical adults

    'the greatest poem ever known
is one all poets have outgrown
    the poetry, inate, untold
of being only 4 years old

still young enough to be a part
    of nature's great impulsive heart
born comrade of bird, beast ,and tree
    and unselfconcious as the bee

and yet with lovely reason skilled
each day new paradise to build
    elate explorer of each sense
    without dismay,without pretense

    in your unstained transparent eyes
there is no conscious , no surprise
life's queer conundrums , you accept
    your strange divinity still kept

and life that sets all things in rhyme
may make you poet to in time
but there were days o' tender elf
when you were poetry itself '

Wisdom is totally relative. Just because you've been living on this Earth for 60 years, does not necessarily make you wise. It's a complex world, and most people CHOOSE to be ignorant and stop asking questions. If someone tries to win an argument by saying 'IM OLDER THAN YOU' then you officially know they are ignorant.

For persons dedicated to learning, lack of time and experience definitely correlate with lack of knowledge. It's why my best friends have been persons older than me. Those who understand what I written here will understand:
"Cherish those who seek the TRUTH, but beware of those who find it." Voltaire

“Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it.” Andre Gide

Youth does not necessarily mean a lack of knowledge, but it does generally carry with it a lack of experience which just simply comes from living and a basic defict in context for the knowledge which they may possess but don't have enough understanding of yet to truly appreciate. Basicly just because they are young doesn't mean that they don't have the facts but they may not nessesarily have an adequate understanding of what to do with all of them yet.

To some wisdom does come with age if they learn from their mistakes...if not they lose the lesson. Young folks think outside the box quite often and have some brilliant ideas at times... at times they know so much that just isn't true(partial Regan quote). It's a toss up..You have to just consider the facts of the argument and separate the chaff from the wheat. A melding of young and old minds can do awsome things I think.

It is very true. And yet I will still be judge by my age because people would rather think that their age makes them some how superior.

Some people just love to go around judging and feeling superior to others. They use all kinds of things to justify their opinions. Age is just one of them. Trying to deal with these people is usually a waste of time. Don't wast your energy. There are plenty of people who will appreciate you for the qualities you have rather than the ones you don't. Anyone can get age. All you have to do is live. Intelligence isn't so easy to come by.

I've received SO MANY cracks about my age, and I guarantee you that if people didn't know my age, I would be taken more seriously. But you know what? I don't want to lie or pretend. If they get owned in a debate by a baby-faced 17-year-old, so be it. I'll take pride in it.

Right? I should really not display my age on here any more because of that.
Like they think, "Oh, you're 16? Well public schools have taught you wrong. They brainwash you. You're experience is irrelevant. It's just a fad, you're grow out of it. You'll change completely and in 5 years you won't be the same person at all. Everything that you've heard is a lie. You don't know how to research things. You don't know how to comprehend things. You don't know this, you don't know that. You can't do this, you can't do that."

I just think to myself, they've must have been some pretty idiotic kids to think so lowly of some individual teens now-a-days!

It does not mean lack of knowledge it means lack of experience and little actual history.
Some things young folks have read about and know about are some of the same things the older person actually lived through.

Sometimes. Lack of knowledge on some things is not always tied to experience, as is lack of education can be in anyone of any age as well as willful ignorance.

The things that do require experience do mean a person has lived enough to understand why that experience is important to the tasks at hand.

Some people seem to think that everyone is the same and that just because they were unable to grasp certain concepts at a young age, it means that no-one else can.
Certainly you should gain a wider variety of knowledge as you get older, but that doesn't mean that you are going to know more than a young person does on any individual subject.
Has the 65 year old Todd Akin demonstrated that he has an in-depth knowledge of biology or sociology for example?
An enlightened person would always welcome the views of the young and the old alike, as much can be learned from both.

Youth doesn't necessarily mean lack of knowledge. Often, youth does equate to less knowledge, simply because there hasn't been enough time to accumulate knowledge. However, I have met some youth who were very impressive in the amount of knowledge they had gathered in their relatively shorter time on this planet. On the other hand, I have met some, well, "seasoned" veterans (old folks) who were quite empty of knowledge. The real key is how a person utilizes the knowledge they have received. In that regard, youth is not really a factor at all. Aptitude is a factor in how you use the knowledge you have, and that is not dependent on age.
