Several local grocers carry it. Tasty! It's very lean and for the most part I've always preferred that.

Short hop across the sea was the only place for a Buffalo Burger for years at the Catalina Airport.

Yes most stores in my area carry venison as well . I don't necessarily agree with it but if they're going to raise them for slaughter. I'll do my job as a carnivore and consume As a hunter I always have plenty of venison so I wouldn't think about buying from a grocery store but I'm very surprised to my understanding it was always illegal but now that There is Deerfarm's opening up almost in every state I guess they can sell it now.

I don't think so, but if I wanted some, it wouldn't be hard to come by. I live near one of the largest bison ranches in the the US.

I wish they did. Buffalo is much leaner than beef and equally tasty. I say we replace cattle herds with buffalo herds.

Definitely, but both are delicious. One of those very special occasion things. There's a man locally who raises ostrich for meat. A butcher makes absolutely awesome sausage out of it. Very lean. [Corralitos Market; Ostrich growers meat company]

It is legal here in Tex, The deer population is too high! At least here in our county, so yes, in most years, you can take 1 doe, Plus he grows some field corn & maize to help feed them! But generally the deer, & wild hogs are over populated; I don't like the wild hogs! But, it's a shame to see the deer starving! So he also buys corn & has feeders scattered around the ranch & he doesn't allow any strangers to hunt his property; & Heaven forbid, if you are a poacher, & he catches you!

     No tresspassing

Wild pigs are a nuisance wherever you are. They're incredibly destructive. They make REALLY good sausage.... and burgers too. Most of them, the meat's pretty tough but braised or ground, it's pretty tasty.

I've not tried the hog sausage! but I've tied it BBQ'd & didn't care for it! Yea the hogs are very destructive! Most local ranchers will shoot on sight! Plus their tusks are razor sharp! & they can be dangerous! I think they will eat about anything! (ugly animal)! & some will weigh. in excess of 300 lb.! wild Texas hog

I agree on all counts. We've got a lot where I live too. If you're going to do anything other than burger or sausage-you've gotta marinate it in buttermilk at least overnight. Kombucha with lots of garlic, coarse black pepper and rosemary works well too.
When I lived on the ranch and had a lot, we had the whole pig made into sausage or ground and even used it as dog and cat food we had so much of it.

Thanks for that update & tips on how to prepare! Our local butcher, & ranchers are pretty good, when it comes to processing & cooking our wildlife I think maybe it is my own psychological dislike for the wild hog, that I can't get passed! The dog & cat food is a great idea! But, I'll pass by it in the BBQ buffet line! Cheers! M! :)

There is a disease in the buffalo herds, like a wasting away disease. Cattle ranchers don't want buffalo near their herds. There was a show on TV about this last week.
Is there a mad buffalo disease we should worry about if grocer stores sell buffalo meat?
