Not before I had one....the overwhelming desire to have a baby sort of lulled me into a false sense of security.

My first was 8lb 2oz and was an horrendous experience....my second was 9lb 11oz and was the easiest (well almost) thing ever!! He was born 20 minutes after I got to the hospital...there wasn't even time to take my shoes off!!! LOVL

Well when I came along, men weren't allowed in the delivery room. But I was pushy and got in fer 'em. It was really kind of odd ( and I have a very bizarre sense of humour ) , I read a Fortune Magazine most of the time it happened and I haven't lived it down for decades. I was like, "Damn, woman how are you going to get that Chest of Drawers through that little hole." But somehow they fit through.

One time our best friend got caught in the room right as it was happening and I said, "Well, pull up a chair. You can't leave now. The movie has just started." drawers hole fit friend caught room pull chair leave movie

yeah if i lived in the 1700's, now we have great doctors and medicine to ease the pain and mothers dying from childbrith is very low.

Yeah just from the fact that I could die if I have a kid. Most likely won't happen, but always a possibility

was it a conscious decision for her not to have an epidural, or was she just unable to have one for some reason? have to say, kudos to her though i could never do it personally...your mom is brave!

yeah it was a conscious decision. my two aunts and both grandma's told my mom that it would mess up both her and the baby so she didnt get it. however when she was screaming for the epidural, the nurse told her it was too late to get it. and yeah, she is the bravest woman ive ever met

my cousin gave all natural child birth too.. she was barely 18 at the time.. she was all for it till it came time to have the kid.. and she freaked out and was in soo much pain she wanted a epideral.. but the doc said it was too late.. so she had no choice and went natural.. LOL.. she made sure not to make the same mistake the second time.. only because she couldnt handle it when she thought she could..

Terrifies me. I'd still go natural though because I think a caesarian is even worse.

Not so good for the baby either....nature designs things to happen a certain way for a reason!! Just think of a giraffe .... the baby falls 6 feet as its born!! All to shock it into breathing and getting straight up on its feet!
