Do you consider there to be a basis for reality, as in the ultimate true reality? Or is reality just a concept that is up to individual perception but does not exist entirely on it's own?

Considering that certain mental illnesses and drugs can alter our perceptions of reality and over all what we see as reality is really just our mental perception of it, but does it exist on it's own? And if it does, can we truly ever know what the reality is?

By definition, reality is what is truely in existance, regardless of perception. The existance or non-existance of reality is a non-question. It is the reality of our perception that should be under question.

There are some things that we can reasonably agree on. Reality exists.

There are other things that fall into the category of perception. Perceptions can vary.

Just because someone believes something doesn't make it true. Sure that is their perception and their 'truth, or reality' but it isn't the ultimate reality. There exists one true reality, and just because some don't take part in it, doesn't make it any less real or truthful.
