i was just thinking back to eigth grade and how my algebra teacher talked about something called br549 (say it in a southern accent lol). he never told us what it meant. yes, my algebra teacher was nuts, and a great teacher at that.

It's an old ppl thing. I myself being rather old, remember the Junior Sample sketches on HeeHaw TV show. It always stuck in my head and I use it to represent senseless gobbledygook or in place of unimportant digits I can't remember.

The origin of the number was "Boat Ramp 549," (BR 549) where Junior Samples of Hee Haw fame kept his boat moored on Lake Lanier near his home, Cumming, Georgia. He used that as the phone number on a used car salesman skit he did on Hee Haw.

There used to be this neat country music show on called HeeHaw that was made up of songs and skits. One recurring skit was where this guy named Junior Sample played the part of a bumbling used car salesman. He'd always give out his phone number to call, and that was BR549.

No, at the time of Hee Haw, the 10 digit number was standard. This was how some TV phone numbers were portrayed back in the 70's. By choosing a number that was not 7 or 10 digits, they avoided legal issues of people suing because their number was illegally portrayed on TV causing unwanted phone calls. Now they use 555 numbers.

Yep, it was a ph number...Junior used to sell used cars (and likely other things) on Hee Haw, that was his skit....he'd pitch his car, then hold up a sign with the famous "BR 549" phone number for customers to call....

I can remember when Uncle Finley and Aunt Marce lived out in San Francisco and had a number like that. When you were calling them long distance (before direct dialing and an operator did it all for you), you'd tell the operator that their phone number was Lombard 61682. Lombard was a district of San Francisco. The operator would then dial LO 61682 (which is 566-1682).

Apparently it was the phone number for Junior's home shopping channel on "Hee Haw"
And it's the name of a band.
