Sometimes I feel like I could for some of the India clothes like the belly dancing outfits, along with their body art! Forget tattoos though no needles!

In reality I'm Puerto Rican which makes me US citizen, and I'm half-Cuban from my mom's side. But still, I wish I was born in somewhere in the Royal Commonwealth like Canada, UK, or Australia. I'm still thankful that I'm US citizen, but it would be better if I was a dual national.

I was born in Southern California; however it was in the Navy housing during the race riots, so I hear it was pretty bad.

Different time and different place. I wish I was born in the Austrian Empire in 1750. That way I could have met Joseph II, could have seen Mozart play live, could have participated in the War of the Bavarian Succession and in the Austro-Turkish War of 1788-1791, and if I lived long enough could have fought against the French under Napoleon. And most importantly, I'd die with Austria nice and healthy, still in control of Germany, and at the height of its prestige. I would never have had to know of Austria's leadership of Germany being usurped by Prussia in 1866, nor of the Empire's final destruction in 1918. AEIOU.

How very interesting. May I recommend a book to you called "Borderland." I think you would find it fascinating. It is quite expensive, out of print, was a college book. My husband born in Autriad has read it twice and loved it.

If I can find it I would love to read it. Austria is my primary focus and I've been collecting as money volumes as possible concerning it. My ambitions currently are to get Derek Beales' two volume biography of the Emperor Joseph II, which will be really expensive. The second volume alone is something like 150 dollars. There was a book "Radetzky Marches" about the Austrian campaign in Italy in 1848-1849 by Michael Embree that only a very limited quantity of was printed. I succeeded in obtaining a signed copy. What is "Borderland" about though? Early Austrian history or like a general history of Austria?

I used to want to have been born in Scotland or Wales or Ireland since I kept feeling guilty about everything the English had done even if it were centuries back, but hey, what can you do?

Besides, being English gives you the freedom to insult the French and the Americans and everybody will just pass it off as...well, being English. Yay for stereotypes!
