I cannot wear contacts because I have scar tissue on my left cornea from an injury many years ago. I tried wearing contacts about 15 years ago, but the scar tissue made it feel like I constantly had a large grain of sand in my eye.
Nope! Got lasik 8 years ago! My vision was 20/40R and 20/75L so it wasn't too bad. It was just bad enough that I had to use glasses to drive, see movies and enjoy views of afar.
My wife was in the 20/400 range though. Once I got mine done, she finally did hers. She's a lot happier without glasses.
It was pretty awesome actually. Wide awake! There was a degree of numbing for pain and control. They locked my head and eyeball into place rather painlessly. I wound up facing up into the big machine looking at a red dot. The doc did his thing and the machine made a repetitive snapping sound like a stun gun, or arcing electricity or a capacitor unloading ....over and over. While that sound was going off, the red dot got clearer and clearer and clearer until is was perfectly clear~!. Pretty awesome! They had me wear these goggles to bed for a couple of nights, and took some muscle relaxers to sleep and stay relaxed...no driving, etc. One of the coolest things I've experienced. I highly recommend it!
Oh they've got that ALLL covered. It sounds kinda scary, but watching the little red dot go from fuzzy to perfectly clear....that's awesome. And it stays that way for years!
So far it's permanent. My wife is starting to need reading glasses...which is normal for her age. I'm starting to need a little more light for fine print. I think that's normal too. I've heard that they can fix that problem though! I might look into that.
Ever since I was in the 2nd grade I've had glasses. At this point to get something like LASIK or even contacts would feel very weird and also look pretty weird since I haven't had a day where I haven't worn glasses since the first day I got them.
It's a deal breaker ;)

An attractive redhead who is nuttier than squirrel feces, go figure ;)
people call me a nerd. do you think i'm a nerd
I found it amusing and slightly scary when I got the answer 20/400.
Yeah, I'm BLIND. But that's why I wear glasses. :P
