There are many requirements attached to my working hours. I'm not allowed to work more than 38 hours a week (excluding lunch hours which are unpaid anyway) can't do more than 6 shifts in a row and I have to have at least 10 hours between each of my shifts, unless I'm doing a split shift, which sucks so I don't do them.

It is hard to be exact. I get paid by the project. I do most of my work form home and I work when I feel like working which is usually late at night and early mornings. I just need to submit progress reports and meet deadlines.

I usually work more than 40 hours, I only claim 40 hours though. The 40 hour work week, mandatory overtime for hours over 40, sucks for people who want to work more hours to make ends meet; because by law, it's not cost effective to allow people to work anymore than 40 hours. Sorry poor people, rich people in Washington needed to get elected, and they seemed to be doing a good deed by regulating how much you are "forced" to work.

Didn't that happen under the Bush administration?

It's actually set at the state level. Federal employees were given the 40 hour work week in 1946, the nation followed suit in the 1950's. So ... no ....

Unfortunately, for the past several years, I've been working more than 40 hrs a week. However, for my family's sake, I'm trying to cut back to 40 hrs or less.

Now that I am retired, I work less than 40 hours a week. This is the first time in my life that I do not have a job that required at least 50 to 60 hours a week.

Being self employed...hours vary. On average I work somewhere between 60 and 70 hours a week. One of the big benefits of being self employed is that you get to work how ever much you want.

As a trucker we have the right to work 70 hours a week according to our logs. But to be honest, those 70 hours usually take a minimum of 90 hours in reality.
