What can we say? We're gaga over groceries! While we shop for our favorite snacks at the store, we often wonder if our grocery store etiquette is the same as others. Do most people sneak in samples at the candy bins while deciding whether or not they're going to buy the goods? What do you do when the cashier gives you too much change? And is it normal to go grocery shopping three times a week? We're finally going to find out.

Thanks for the reminder about 'service by humans.' I'm one of the people that use both services. Some of the times that I use self check out is really a service to the customers behind me because I tend to talk a lot and end up holding up the live cashiers up a little longer than necessary....reply - sandra.hemmes 2012/09/06 01:07:17Regular Checkout+2I like a cashier to run the groceries through the check stand. Then all I have to do is to swipe my debit card. I like dealing with a person, not just running the groceries through on my own.reply

Ha ha , yea, I know. Fortunately, I'm not usually in a hurry...The only place I ever found that said '20 items or less' was at a Wal Mart, and a cashier had to tell me. The reason cited was that they weren't designed to handle volume, but i'd self-checked more that 20 items before that and still do in the grocery stores if given the opportunity. I've also had my share of problems at the self check registers (and have been reminded by my kids that the registers can't answer me when I frustratingly start talking to then..lol)reply - L Dub MlssCue... 2012/09/11 18:54:44
Yeah. lol. I've only been told once (at a Wal Mart Super store) that the self check register was designed for 20 items because it had problems handling volume.) And as you stated, I have never seen a sign posted "20 items or less" So, when I do use self check, I never take into account how many items I'm checking.reply - bigscottk 2012/09/05 23:59:50Regular Checkout+2Call me old fashioned but I seldom use self checkouts as I really despise them. The only time I use them is if I have less then five items & I'm in a really big hurry. I.M.H.O. I figure if a store wants my money bad enough they can have someone there to take it. Hmmph!reply

- nbarton2 2012/09/05 23:43:27 (edited)Self-Checkout+2if given the option I want to self check-out because I generally don't get that much stuff I like to get in and get outreply
- DanielRivers 2012/09/05 23:37:38Regular Checkout+4I HATE SELF CHECKOUT People need jobs. I need a job. Most of the time you have someone standing there doing nothing and I'll go into a long line, because I boycott the self checkouts. Then the person who's job is to assist self check out tells me I can go to that part, and I tell them I prefer real people, so they end up checking me out in the self check out. Also, it is slower, I worked in a Super store and I can bag fast. The machines make you put one item at a time. It is rediculous. I'll take a long line and a nice chat with a pretty girl over a robot that doesn't like how I bag.reply

+2I wanna comment, I saw the demographics for only three states...two southern states prefer a human being, while the communist hippy state prefers robots. I rest my case.reply - emily DanielR... 2012/09/06 00:58:56

+1I think I'm the only respondent from Montana so far, but my state is about as far from communist or hippy as you can get.reply - musicman95 DanielR... 2012/09/06 12:32:00
+2I didn't mean to rave this! I many to ask what the hell is wrong with hippys?!?!?reply - L Dub DanielR... 2012/09/11 18:41:47
So which state are you talking about? I'm from California and am neither, neither are most people here, but we've got some of everything here. Just curious. You comment made me chuckle.reply - L Dub DanielR... 2012/09/11 18:57:54
So, what Northern state was it that is communist and hippy-ish. I'm from California and most people here are neither. I use both...thanks for the chuckle though.reply - emily DanielR... 2012/09/06 01:01:42
by the way that was kind of you know... what's the word? oh I know L.O.N.G, that means Lasting, Orderly, Nuetral, GUIDANCE! I mean who would waste, like, 5 minutes of their life on here??? I mean have you ever heard Y.O.L.O.?? I think not.reply - ☆stillthe12c☆ 2012/09/05 23:32:58Self-Checkout+2It is normally much faster. It is getting worse.
