Do You Use Regular Checkout or Self-Checkout?

What can we say? We're gaga over groceries! While we shop for our favorite snacks at the store, we often wonder if our grocery store etiquette is the same as others. Do most people sneak in samples at the candy bins while deciding whether or not they're going to buy the goods? What do you do when the cashier gives you too much change? And is it normal to go grocery shopping three times a week? We're finally going to find out.

    i like the self cheak outs but if more of us do that then there will be less jobs and we really dont want that

    I screw up anything technical. I'm not well into gadgets and 300 page manuals! So no but if I have to I can usually get a cute guy to help me ;)

    I'm old fashion, I like to have a person ring up my food not do it myself and hunt for the bar code and ring it up and then bag it. Know if they gave me a 20 percent discount if I did it for my efforts then I may consider it.

    If I have fresh produce that needs to be weighed, I'll use the regular checkout. If I only have a few simple items, I'll use the self checkout.

    If they have self checkout I would rather go there than wait in line.. It's just faster and I can't deal with some checkers that are so dam slow.

    I use self checkout when the people getting paid to help me are too absorbed in their conversation to do their jobs. Actually, I believe I am contributing to an ever growing problem of: bad customer service and the corporate greed factor that will eventually dismiss the human beans for technology.

    It depends. Usually my purchases are pretty small, so the self-checkout works best for me if it is available. For larger loads, I'd rather not hold up the line with a cart full of junk, trying to juggle everything while someone who just wants a pack of gum has to wait for me or something. Lol.

    There needs to be a third option for those that use both, depending on the amount of groceries being bought. Because if I only have a couple things to pay for, if there's a self-checkout open, I'm using that. But if I have a basket or cart full of groceries, I'll get into the shortest regular checkout line there is and pay there.

    Only if one is available from the get-go. The only bad thing I don't like about them is the wait for them which is when I choose to go to a regular checkout. Also, I consider self-checkout to be an express checkout. NOT a cart-full-of-groceries checkout.

    They are not paying me to be a check out person.. so I would be damned before I do that job. It is not like using it saves me money.

    I only use self checkout if I'm in a rush or if all of the regular registers are too full up.

    I prefer self-checkout but I'll use either, especially if the cashier is attractive. ;p

    I prefer self checkout,it is usually faster because most people are adverse to change and stick with what they know and feel comfortable with."the check out person"

    Both. Depends on which is faster. Sometimes the self check outs are filled and only the lines with cashiers are available.

    I refuse to use the self check outs, as I see it since the store is saving money on not having to hire people to man tills and manually scan items they can at least pass the savings on to people that shop there.

    I would probably use the self-checkout more but unfortunately the only place I go regularly that has it is Ikea, and I only go there to eat cheap meatballs.

    Self-Checkout is such a stupid joke. We customers aren't trained to be cashiers, and I think it's disrespectful to the cashiers. The job of cashier is much more skilled, than they make it out to be. Somebody told me, she thinks they are trying to eliminate jobs. I agree. If they think they are saving any money, why don't the stores share what they are saving, with me? I would rather wait in line than check myself out.

    I use self-checkout on occasion, but normally I'll go through a checkout that involves a human cashier instead of a machine.

    Usually I use self-checkout if I have very few items or the lines for regular are way too long.

    As a cashier, I've always viewed it as the lines are for people with lots of stuff, and the self checkout is for people with a few things.

    I only go shopping once a week so my basket is full, if I come come in for one or two items than I will use self service as it is great for getting in and out in a hurry.

    I meant to pick regular checkout. Why would I do something myself when people are getting paid to do it for me? I'm ruining people's lives by letting their jobs go to robots.

    Cashiers are annoying...the Safeway ones are creepy...they are too talkative and then they have to look over my receipt and call me by my last name. I just want to buy my stuff and go, I don't want to talk and it's creepy that they need to know my last name.

    Plus they are freaking slow, I remember going to an express lane and waited in line for a long time because the cashier was half dead or something.
