Do you think welfare recipients should be drug tested?

As American citizens we are paying tax dollars to help families who are in need and those who abuse the system. Those in need wouldn't care to do a drug test, but those who use it as a way of life don't want it. If we have to be drug tested for a job then shouldn't a welfare recipient be under the same guidelines as any tax paying employee?

Florida has already proven this does not work. They spent millions to save thousands.

It's a scam, They can charge what ever they want. The gov pays more, and saves nothing. That's exactly what Rick Scott was convicted for.

or a comprehensive drug test (Cannabis, opiates, barbiturates, etc.) it will cost you far more than you'd save on disqualifying people. How about prescription drug abuse? Where does that fit in (and that would include marijuana)? It's just not that cut and dry....

Why isn't it cut and dry? You are on drugs, you do not qualify for aid. It is that simple. As for the cost, sure the set up costs would be large, but in the long run (the bigger picture) the costs would go down. It would just take time for it to turn around.

When I was working, I had to take a drug test to keep my job so I could pay into welfare. Taking a drug test and passing it is the least they can do to receive it.

Absolutely. Drug tested and their birth control should be state subsidized. Any kids they have after going on public assistance would not result in an increase in their assistance, either.

Birth control don't every work and y'all r so mean and all y'all care about is money. Y'all don't want to make sure the kids don't go hungry. So u want r united states to be like other countries with starving kids in it that wrong very wrong. Alot of ppl was on birth control when they got pregnant. I know alot of them. Why make the kids in the united states go hungry

Ok putting down a mental disable person for their disability is discrimination.

Really? Make the kids suffer? Who is making them suffer? Me, someone they will never meet or their PARENTS that can't seem to get their lives straight. I don't ask you to help take care of my children. I never have asked for help taking care of myself or my family. But if for some reason I needed the aid, I would be happy to take a drug test for it. And I would be out there busting my hump every day looking for a job to get OFF the aid and back to normal. I wouldn't sit around being a lazy arse on my couch.

I don't mind helping people. But when people abuse the system over and over and over and over again... Well at some point you just have to say NO! I'm not willing to help you anymore.

They need to put limits on it. You take a drug test to get the Aid. You pass the test you have "X" time getting the Aid and then you are off of it. It forces them to get off their butts and try to make it work.

It didn't work in Florida the taxpayers paid $1.5 million dollars and it didn't save anything. I don't have to take not drug test plus a piss test will only get people on weed. That all they got in Florida. The harder drugs r out of the system in 1-3 days. They will still be getting it so what's the use its stupid. Some of those people drug of choice is meth or crack. Its out fast. The only people being tested if it gets going again is TANF and unemployment only I am disable physical and mentally. Most of the people on foodstamps has jobs or they r disable. I had 18 feet of my small intestines tooken out I was in a coma when my doctor and mom put me on Ssi and Medicaid. I wasn't sopose to live. I was in the hospital 6 months and 3 different hospitals. I was 50 pounds I am on a high calorie diet. The only people being test is TANF and unemployment. But it got stopped by the ACLU is a violation to the 4th amendment

It is NOT against the 4th Amendment. If someone is applying for aid they should be willing to go through the same screening that I have to go through to get a job. If they required "you" to get aid, meaning "you" were forced by the government to get aid, then yes I could see how it would be against the 4th. But they aren't being forced too. If they want help, then by golly you and anyone else should be willing to go through a drug screen.

I have no issues, if it happened to come to pass that I needed aid of some sort, going through a drug screen.

U have nothing to say now? Since I told u I'm not on TANF and that I'm physical and mentally disable. I don't have kids and don't plan on it.
  • RH freedom... 2013/01/06 19:03:26

If you are physically and mentally disabled you shouldn't be doing drugs. So it shouldn't be an issue to go through the testing.

Will I don't do drugs and it's only TANF and unemployment that's getting tested not Ssi. People on foodstamps do work and pay taxes. Its true the ACLU put a stop to Florida drug testing because its a violation to privacy. Its been proof that it doesn't work only 2% had weed in the system. They r not find the crack or meth heads it leaves the system in 1-3 days so they still get it. Its a waste of taxpayers money more y'all pay for the test. Florida estimated it to cost 1.5 million dollars not save anything. Then y'all pay for the children in Foster care too so that's more money.

You are welcome to your opinion on it. Mine, no matter what you or anyone else says about it, will not change.

If someone wants Aid from "me" (as it is my tax dollars they are taking) then they should be willing to stay clean. It really is that simple for me.

As for the cost of the program. Sure, the start up costs would be rather hefty and even continue for awhile. But in the long run (the bigger picture), money would be saved.

Yea its ur taxes being spent for the test too. They higher the taxes too. Its not going to save anything when they don't find the meth and crack heads that uses the money for drugs and that's mostly what some people r on. Its going to waste ur money on not saving any proven in Florida and the research I heard about in Oklahoma only 100 people tested positive for weed only its costing Oklahoma about the same amount as Florida. If they r doing the people that apply and have a pass of drug abuse then heck yea test them but not everyone and they should go threw the apacations to see if any people that's already on it has any back ground of drugs and test them but testing every single person on it will cost billions of dollars and wont save enough in the long run. It they test people with a pass of drugs then do it other then that I think it would cost taxpayers way to much money I think that money should go to security for the schools because to many kids r getting killed for nothing

No. They are easy to pass and it would cost more in taxes to put it in force, while only $1 out of $10 only get to the recipient already.
