If I were the Illuminati, to prevent people from realizing I was and had been in complete and total power for millennia, I would disseminate the fear that I was perhaps gaining influence, and could potentially one day take over.

Just because people don't know everything there is to know about something, doesn't give them license to start imagining there is wrong doing going on. It makes me furious when people say bad things about the Masons too.

It is scary to think about, but there is definitely a "power" behind most of the decisions in the world. I

Everything you listed is for entertainment I think if the Illuminati was trying to take over that would not be their way of going about it.

The Illuminati was the term used during the Renaissance to denote those who were of a more scientific bent, rather than just living by the Catholic Churches' version of the world. One member was Galileo, who fought mightily with the Church over the fact that he believed the world to be round, and not flat as the Church insisted. The Church hated these Men of Science, and so 'the illuminated ones' were seen as anti-God/religion, etc.

    In that context.....think about it.,

Wow, are you misinformed. Better read up on Galileo Galilei, and not from a twentieth-hand repackaging slapped together by some anti-Catholic dunce.

It's a typical enough story of Italian personal politics, about the competing egos of aristocrats within the Catholic hierarchy (including Galileo). The stuff of great soap-opera drama, more than the actual controversy of Galileo's not-even-original scientific publications (having to do with the movement of the solar system, not the shape of the Earth -- Aristotle vs. Copernicus).

And, y'know what? Having actually read a bit about all that period, I also don't find any of those "illuminati" claims familiar. Maybe I need to watch more Hollywood movies and read more trashy novels about the diabolical underbelly of the Catholic Church...

Misinformed? Hmmmm. That was told me by a Jesuit priest. We had many, many long talks about the Illuminati, the Masons and other questions I posed. Let me know which trashy movies you'd like to watch, I'll bring the popcorn - they're always good for a laugh.

They are doing it by owning the big corporations, thereby owning the elected politicians.

It's really worse than that. Publicly traded corporate entities have no master, and outlive us all, with ever growing freedom and control that transcends the individuals who pass through them -- mere cogs in a machine redefining ethics to suit the demands of shareholders so far distant and devoid of liability that few care about anything but profit.

A secret "illuminati" organization with any plan for human society would be far less terrible. Perhaps it's because we sense the madness of reality, and the limited power any individual has to impact the direction our society is going, that we dream up these powerful secret manipulators. Just a reflection of the human instinct to look for order even in the most chaotic scene.

I was kidding about the Illuminati, but not about the big corporations, which are control by the one percent.
