They certainly try very relentlessly but indeed, the remote is never too far to mute, fast forward or change. The continued efforts to advertise on television and radio merely reinforces the resolve to avoid ALL unnecessary commerce. If it is being advertised, the unadvertised options invariably save enough money to render all advertising as completely counter productive. Our middle name is 'Generic'. chuck yew guyz

We like the store brands, that's probably the same or similar to Generic.

I don't know what they try to do but since the volume of adds go up, we automatically put it on Mute or switch to HBO. I generally don't watch many adds.

They generate their revenue through advertising. Would I prefer no ads of course. But do I want to pay more for the shows? No. What pisses me off is the advertising on the screen over the show I am watching. Also ads for the show I am watching during commercials. Then there is the one I heard last night tell me what I was watching

The other night I was watching something and for a second I though "damn that was stupid of the woman to get a network logo tattooed on her arm" Then she moved and the logo stayed in place on the screen

I've seen them interfere with weather alerts or, even worse, missing child alerts to the point that it was hard to read either one.

That's why we record the TV programs---but once in while you ketch the star of the program you're recording and stop the FF prematurely....you soon realize "it's a trap".

the show has to be paid for somehow?? This is has always been the case in radio and tv... the show, to draw the crowd...when in reality, the radio or tv station is trying to pay everyone with the ads that are viewed or heard.

The programme stops, there's a caption board showing the name and "end of part" whatever and then the adverts start.

You'd have to be pretty stupid to be tricked by that!
