Do you think Southwest went too far telling a woman she had too much cleavage?

Avital was boarding a 6 a.m. Southwest Airlines flight on June 5 from Las Vegas to New York, wearing a cotton black dress, flannel shirt and scarf.

Avital claims she was politely chatting with an airline worker – who then told her cleavage was inappropriate and that she wouldn’t be able to board the flight unless she buttoned up her flannel shirt...Avital declined to cover up and boarded the plane – cleavage and all. The flight and Avital apparently made it to New York without incident.

“[I didn't] think there was anything that special about the outfit I was wearing. It had topped 115 degrees in Las Vegas when I was there, and most people were scantily dressed just to stay cool. I hadn’t even considered that it would have been a big deal,” Avital said.

She added that she “most likely” will not be flying Southwest again.

Unless she was boarding in a bikini, she wasn't, they have no right to comment on her cleavage, abundant or not. I think the person who talked to her about her cleavage was either jealous or just wanting a closer look. Either way the picture doesn't show any more cleavage than most in that kind of heat and if you go to most non-uniform high schools you will most likely see more skin than this woman showed.

Unless what I'm wearing could get me arrested, then the airline/bus line/amtrak. has no business worrying about how I'm dressed. We have LAWS that keep people dressed appropriately in public, if she was breaking one of them then the police should have been called, if NOT which is the case, she should have been left alone.

It is their right to define dress standards. It also the right of the customer to choose a different carrier. In the end, it looks like Southwest voted to close the revenue gap.

That's not that much cleavage--that's a normal amount. Sheesh, why is Southwest so Puritanical? I could see if her breasts had been hanging out on the sides or something but that looks perfectly acceptable to me. Humph.

Though if it were so hot outside, why the flannel and scarf, however, unless they post a dress code on their website and tickets, I can't see how this would be enforceable.

Flannel shirt is because the plane is so cold you need cover when you fly, they now charge 5 dollars for a blanket

Last time I flew, and it was in March, I didn't find the plane cold at all, if anything it was stuffy, and I could see the shirt tossed into your carry on, or holding it, but you certainly wouldn't be wearing it, if it were 115 degrees out.

Besides her looking like a vagrant/bag lady, if it was 115 degrees and she was hot, why did she have on a flannel shirt and scarf??? That call may have just been the airline workers idea....but it is their plane and I guess they should be able to call the shots...She is big boobed, maybe that was the real issue, but she is covered...I wonder if we will hear more of this story...
