Do you think Southwest went too far telling a woman she had too much cleavage?

Avital was boarding a 6 a.m. Southwest Airlines flight on June 5 from Las Vegas to New York, wearing a cotton black dress, flannel shirt and scarf.

Avital claims she was politely chatting with an airline worker – who then told her cleavage was inappropriate and that she wouldn’t be able to board the flight unless she buttoned up her flannel shirt...Avital declined to cover up and boarded the plane – cleavage and all. The flight and Avital apparently made it to New York without incident.

“[I didn't] think there was anything that special about the outfit I was wearing. It had topped 115 degrees in Las Vegas when I was there, and most people were scantily dressed just to stay cool. I hadn’t even considered that it would have been a big deal,” Avital said.

She added that she “most likely” will not be flying Southwest again.

Unless she was boarding in a bikini, she wasn't, they have no right to comment on her cleavage, abundant or not. I think the person who talked to her about her cleavage was either jealous or just wanting a closer look. Either way the picture doesn't show any more cleavage than most in that kind of heat and if you go to most non-uniform high schools you will most likely see more skin than this woman showed.

she wasn't completely exposing herself, and I'm sure she wasn't the only one dressing in that manner seeing as it was 115 degrees so why was she singled out?

One had to look at the situation. IF she were a part of some church group, etc, then it should've been told to her by her leader. There are rules of exhibition and unless she was flaunting her goodies, then she's dressed fine. That being said, I thought that SouthWest had restricted her, but nothing happened to her. The airline worker is no more a representative for SouthWest than the bummed out bag boy at your grocery store is one for the store's corporate office.

Southwest is the Walmart of Airlines. You would think they would promote trashy dressing like this.

I believe they did the right thing to say she was wearing too much cleavage. I mean some people could find that offensive. And ALSO, think about the kids who could have saw that, horny teenage boys, impressionable little girls, and whoever else.

...are you serious? its only a little cleavage. i mean this isn't the middle ages, people have rights and the people that are uncomfortable are probably stuck inside of a old book of some kind. also whats wrong about a kid seeing that?

Maybe she could've had a better outfit selection, yes. But to tell someone they can't board b/c of their general anatomy is just bordering on kinda absurd.

this is the same airline that was known in the seventies as the love airline. the flight attendants wore hot pants. a little cleavage doesn't harm anyone, especially in a society which overexposes every body part that the human bodycan reveal. it is absurd. if she had been more attractive, nothing would have been said. that is what the airline found offensive.

What she was wearing was more than adequate to cover the areas that have to be covered by public decency laws so the airline has no leg to stand on as she paid for her ticket which airlines don't give refunds on.

Unless she was an airline employee, no should have said anything to her and if the other passengers were not bothered by it, then the crew should have been. Although she is lucky that no flight attendant made a real issue out of it. It's illegal just argue or insult them as per FAA rules, she could have been removed from the plane.

If she worked there, or in violation of the health code then yes they could say that but this woman was a CUSTOMER!!! So many businesses have forgotten that it is the customer that makes their business not the other way around, Way to go Southwestern
As an aside, was the airline worker right or was it their own preference?

I truly hate MOST of their flight attendants. They have grown to be rude, surly, and ignorant of the history behind their JOB POSITIONS. The co-pilot, and Air Marshalls have SAFETY covered. Besides, having seen many different flight crew workers, I would NOT be entrusting them with the safety of my person, so on a no-frills airline, they are virtually useless, and could easily be replaced by a security guard (for when pilots need to stretch their legs/use the facilities) or a separate restroom for the flight deck only, a safety video, and beverage dispensing machines! :P

unless she was exposing her goodies in an offensive manner who cares? Really? boobs? we all got em... we all nurse from em..... and yep us boys sure enjoy checkin them out and playing with them, but really? how on earth would a female with very large breasts be able to cover her cleavage???? wow, our society has really gotten up tight.... next thing you know women will be expected to cover their faces and ankles and all that..... oops, a little political incorrectness... oh well, get over it or go home.

She only exposed a little bit of cleavage. That should be overlooked because of the amount of clothing she had on other places. They should have just asked her to button up her shirt and problem solved.

I personally think anybody who dresses like that in public is not a person with very high morals, but the airline doesn't have the right to deny boarding to her. I do think if the company wants to establish a dress code, it's OK, but all customers should know about it BEFORE they buy their tickets.

Dee, catty old ladies like you make me laugh. Autumn seems like a pleasant enough girl who has a few standards. That doesn't make her jealous. If it did, then you would apparently be jealous of the "Naked" men in the photo that you posted below.
