Do you think some doctors are idiots?

I have had 'IBS' for 23 years. 3 years ago I had a hiatus hernia operation. Over the past 2+ years I have had even worse symptoms than before the op. My GP would not believe me and I have put up with choking on food, asthma attacks, acid reflux and chest pain to name only a few of the symptoms. Having been off work for a month with unremitting diarrhea I went to the doctor 3 times. Every time I was fobbed off. On the last occasion I was told to eat some Yakult, At this point, I went ballistic and demanded he refer me and I took out private insurance. 6 days later, saw the consultant. 6 further days and I had an endoscopy. Turns out I have a massive hiatus hernia and the op didn't work at all. HELLO!!!! I am awaiting results of biopsies for celiac disease.
MY GP IS MOST DEFINITELY AN IDIOT. A dangerous idiot. Leaving the acid reflux and hernia untreated can lead to cancer. I am thankful it has not come to that.
My advice to anyone getting this kind of idiot is to vociferously challenge them, but do your research in advance. Take a copy of the clinical guidelines for what you may think is wrong with you and ask if they should be doing some investigations based on the symptoms you have. You can get the guidelines on the NICE website in the UK, and the National Guidelines Clearing website in the US. There are others in many countries. JUST DON'T LIE DOWN AND TAKE IT. They are all lazy, incompetent, money grubbing little gits.

Funny! I typed in "doctors are " put in a space and then "idiots" came up as a suggestion. I am as sick as a dog and doctors call me a hypochondriac because they are too clueless to investigate. Why must I pay a fortune to have an idiot doctor say, "It's a virus; here's an anti-biotic." and send you on your way??? Bunch of retards. They spend one year studying how to call everything a virus and spend the next 6 years practicing how to have a horrendous handwriting that pharmacists can't decipher.

Hell, I KNOW they are; I've tolerated more than a couple in my life, but only for a short time. They're in it strictly for the money and they burn me up. They usually have nutty nurses as well.

There are idiots in every profession. In fact there are two colleagues I wonder to this day how they don't get fired.....

I have seen sooo much working with Drs.and it's definitely not all good.

I know :-( My mother went through brain surgery for no good reason. She was treated like a lab rat. Any quality time was taken away in lew of insurence $$$. I could go on, have seen the same thing happen to friends. I was only 2 classes short of becoming a Medical Assistant and took all Medical Billing classes. I had to walk away. I do admire the men and woman who stay no matter what. You are the the true hero's in this field!

Sorry to hear about your mother and it happens far to often.The saying goes"why do you think they call it practicing medicine?". That is exactly what happens too many times.

Most of them are and I have no problem fireing a doctor face to face or in front of others in the waiting room. Stay clear of the greedy ones who double and triple book to make more money. If more people would do that we can put more of the bad ones out of buisness.

Maybe not idiots, but they are horribly arrogant. My dad had a doctor who told him he needed several thousand dollars' worth of testing so they could be 100% positive he had Crohn's disease. He got a second opinion, who said there's no real test and his symptoms matched up, so he should just cut back on the dairy and he'd be fine.

I don't think they are idiots. I just think they are arrogant and sometimes operation happy. My mom had a doctor that tried to perform surgery on her heart, when it was her kidneys that were the problem!

Yes and they can kill you. A bad mechnic will just ruin your car. But a bad doctor can kill people. I was nearly killed by a bad VA doctor who was addicting our troops to psychiatric meds. I had low testosterone and got funny rapid heart rate from it. The 1st doc misdiagnosed my condition gave me psychiatric meds I didn't need. I had a reaction to them and was dying from the effects. But I had a miraculous healing from Jesus.
That is why I changed from Native American spirituality to be a Christian.

I hope you never run into the doctors that we are talking about. That's a foolish notion however because a doctor takes care of his collegues no matter how he treats his patients.

my doctor is extremely creepy, wants to talk to me like im his best friend when all i want to do is escape, and he thinks the solution to all things is getting a shot >_< i hate him.
