Do you think social networking sites like Sodahead, Facebook, etc, should be segregated by age?

I think it should be separated by age groups. 18 to 25, 25 to 35, 35 to 45, 45 to 100 and over. But, you can go up to a higher age group if you wish, as well as back to your set age group. But, you cannot go down to a younger age group. The main reason for this is because at these age brackets people tend to think alike and if you are more comfortable with older people you can go up the them. It saves older people from asking younger people to be friends and people getting freaked-out. Plus, at these age brackets the level of life experiences, and education are somewhat leveled.

I voted no because.....how would the younger generation learn from the older generation or vice-versa.....the whole point is to have discussions and opinions. Society in general is not segregated. If younger people get freaked out by having older one's asking them to be friends....all they have to do on here is deny the request. Pretty simple.....

Well, I understand where you are coming from. When I first arrived here and saw the age ranges here, it was different because I am used to sites that were specifically for an adult range. I don't seek out for or accept friendship requests from very young people - nothing against them, but for reasons you mention. I don't go out of my way to "fraternize" with either, but all ages seem to contribute to some topics.

What I have found is that, refreshingly, some younger people can have a very mature outlook and approach over some of the more "mature" people here, which I appreciate and sometimes want to tell them so or likewise, if a comment touches me. Some sound very intelligent and informed or might share similar thoughts.

Now, if it comes to unwelcome approaches by older people - that is inappropriate and should have controls on and of course, there are some options here. (As far as the range of 45 - to over 100, that is quite a jump, though after one becomes an adult, there is more of a relation to later age ranges). I don't know how they would accomplish that here, having to segregate by age.

That would be the dream. Me being 25, I don't really have an interest in communicating with kids who are either younger then my siblings or the same age as my 14 year old brother. We don't have anything in common and I'm not interested in knowing about how they go to bed whenever they want. And I don't care about the "am I cute?" topics. I'm saying 17 up is about right. Having seperate age groups isn't needed. 17+ is ok.

You can always create a group on SH if you want to discuss topics that affect only your age group.

I don't want to be stuck with people my age! I'm going to be honest, a lot of us are PRETTY dumb. I'm not saying I'm not, because I'm a bit of an airhead myself...lol

but all they talk about are Boys and relationships and "being SO in love" and "which lie (sp??) should I use to convince my parents I don't cut myself?" or "scene vs emo" or ETC ETC ETC. It drives me crazy XD

Sounds like a NANY idea to me. I think 16 should be the min but that would be the physical age. I happen to have it on good authority that there are some 3yr olds on here (and yes at times I’m one of the 3yr olds) I figured I’d say that before some (*) (make that what ever you like) says it first.

That would make it difficult for people for people to get as many people to vote on their poles and it would make it harder for people to get their point across when they post their oppinions as fewer people would be able to see what they post.

English wasn't my first language, and I've also seen many people in Japan and Korea who study English hard and do a great job learning it.

That's why I get pretty frustrated at constantly seeing people whose native language is ENGLISH write "your" when they mean "you're" ... "poles" when they mean "polls" ... "weather" when they mean "whether" ... and many other such examples.

Some people may think I'm being petty, but I'm not. It's a sad state of affairs when we can't even get the basics of our own language right. It just shows how much society has lowered and weakened its standards.

I agree with ya. I have many friends in foreign countries and they speak many other languages. It is a struggle sometimes to get the phrases right in English. I usually do not give them a hard time, but if you were born and raised in the USA you have no excuse.

I actually have aspergers which is a learning dissability that can make it more difficult for me to spell things properly although I actually do spell as well as I can even ifit might not look like that especially when you consider that I don't purposely mispell things by doing things such as writting u instead of you or r instead of are.

Not really. Some of the young people on SH, even some under 18, conduct themselves far more 'maturely' than many older folks. It has been a pleasure for me, to have discussions with them.

No. People of all ages should be able to coexist perfectly well together. and if an adult's behavior is out of line, he or she can be blocked, reported, etc. etc.

In the frirst place, anybody over 25 should be pretty well able to communicate on the same level with no problem. Then, like it or not, it's good for the old and young to be able to exchange ideas. Good for both sides.

But as someone mentioned, what is to keep some from lying? I was on a site where they were trying to have a "Women's Discussion Group" and found there were men sneaking in there, using aliases - and that could go either way, of course. Though most wouldn't go to such trouble, probably - it is the Internet.
