Do you think SH should have an age restriction?

The longer I am here the more I see from teenagers that bother me tremendously. I don't feel they should all be here (I am sorry teens, it's nothing personal). I think SH should have an age restriction, or when we make a poll we can set up age perimeters. I am a firm believer that kids are very impressionable, naive, too trusting and can not make good judgement when up against an adult, especially a conniving adult. As I've told some, I myself have a 15 yr. old daughter. When I read the things these teens are saying, doing & who they are conversing with and in what manner I shudder at the thought of my daughter being on this site, and alone at that. Seeing this daily brings a lot of mixed emotions out, from sadness to anger. I already know I'm sensitive but maybe I'm just too sensitive...?!

There is an age restriction, 13, I believe. As for teens being here, age is not the issue, the maturity level is. I've seen quite a few adults' comments here that made me wonder if they themselves should be allowed on SH.

Sh has preditors that have harrassed young members and I have spoken to a number of young girls here about that. There are also many topics and language that is unsuitable for any young child.

I would never let my child be a part of any community like this. Most of the kids I have spoken to said their parent do not know there are here. That should be stopped.

Exactly! Like I said, these parents have no flippin clue these kids are on here. Because they just let them freely go on the net. I too have talked to young girls about these things & I've also made comments to men. I don't care what they think or if they like me or not, these little girls need someone to watch out for them while they are here, or as best as one could....

I have also contacted the management here and they could care less. I said they should watch out for lawsuits and they just brushed me off. One girls has a stalker and was very scared. I told her to get off, but she thought she could handle herself. If she was scared, I do not think she was doing a good job at all.

I have also seen that, girls who have said they are scared because of the emails they receive from men. I seen a conversation not too long ago where the girls was saying she'd doesn't have sex with the lights on because of her body, to which a man replied that he'd have sex with her & wouldn't mind that she's a bit bigger. This conversation was from maybe a month or so ago when I was reading it & not one person commented. I flagged him & told him he needs to not be talking to a child like that & then I left her a comment that she need not be talking to a grown man about her sex life. She replied some flighty "oh I didnt know his age lol"

Good point. Unfortunately preditors are every where and we parents need to educate our children a little bit better.

I personally, wouldn't let me children on SH either, nor would I take them to a rated "R" movie.

I'm not judging other parents that do... that's their business.

That's just it, these parents are obviously NOT being guided. Just because they are here doesn't mean they have the ok! No, that's not true about if someone steps out of line. I see grown men hitting on young girls every single day & the same men....how is that being persued aggresively?

There already is one; members are supposed to be above the age of 13.

If you're asking for the site to be 18+, that's highly unlikely to ever happen, as this site only exists to make 'Fef & Co' money.

Minors make up a good portion of the membership here; and without them, a big chunk of the revenue stream would be lost.

I'm not looking for anyone to tell me anything, just asking how others feel on the issue. No, it's not going to change because we wish it to. Nothing will change at all, even aside from this if we don't do something instead of sitting back watching it like a bad accident. But because others have the mindset, oh well what can I do, our world will go on & we will continue to see more kids on the news from being violated by those who are lurking on the net.

The current age restriction is 13, but it probably should be higher. There are underage kids talking about being in threesomes with other adults i.e. on some of the blog polls..

EXACTLY! Bingo! Adult men flirting with, asking questions, etc. to these young ladies who are naive, or maybe just don't care because they feel they are grown! I can not and will not sit back & watch that. Kids mean entirely too much to me to do so. I don't care if I'm the only person saying anything at all or if all of SH thinks I'm a biggest prudish bitch that ever existed. ;-) Thank ya sweetness.

No, not just that one; all the 'main' trolls.

It's highly probable that SH only has about anywhere from 350K to about half a million viable active accounts, once you weed out the socks, trolls and dead 404'd members...

In a conversation with a few people, someone brought up the fact that despite the claims of large site membership, you generally see the same exact couple hundred of people making comments, no matter what the topic is.

That's rather odd, unless the majority of the site's members just lurk, and never comment...

I kind of have a love-hate relationship with the idea.

I like how you're thinking of the safety of us teenagers when you suggest the idea, not just suggesting an age restriction because of some of the vacuous questions some of us ask. Since I'm 14, I know people like this. Many of us are vapid and naive people. That I understand. I mean, I go to school with people like this. How could I NOT understand?

However, this would punish all of us for the actions of some, which I don't view as fair. Even then, an age restriction probably wouldn't do much good since this is the Internet, a place where you can just lie, lie, lie all day and no one will be able to tell. They can't even see your face, after all. So if an age restriction were to be set, I'd just change my age. I could get away with being an adult, I'm pretty sure. Even if I couldn't, like I mentioned before, no one can prove anything anyway.

    That aside...
I see you also brought up some of the adults here. Good job in doing that.
In the case of teenagers and conniving adults tricking teenagers, I'm a strong believer that we should really be focusing on the conniving adults. They're the ones with the true problem in my honest opinion. After all, we teenagers, especially girls, can't help the fact that we're basically a tar...

However, an adult CAN help their actions towards us. They CAN control themselves instead of endangering us. I'm aware that some of us need to not be so naive, but in the end, the adults are the ones who are doing something that's essentially criminal. We should be focusing our attention on them.

Very, very well said!!! You & I have spoken at length & you know my true intention is just the safety of & not the banning of any teen. You make an excellent point that it is the adults who are conniving the young that need to be dealt with & I have done my part and continue to, as much as I can. I just think it's utterly disgusting at the amount of adults that chose to turn a blind eye to what is going on here! Sure, I can leave at any time I like if I don't like this. But I enjoy it here & like you, should I have to leave because of it? No. At the end, all it is, is another SH opinion (from me). I appreciate your words, thank you.

And thank you as well, for complimenting my point! You make a great point as well, about how no one should feel the need to leave because of something like this. But, as always, a vast minority will ruin it for everyone else and make things more unpleasant than they should be.
In the end, I believe what goes around comes around, and these adults who are tricking people like me will get what's coming to them, even if they don't end up incarcerated like their actions suggest they should.
But thanks again, I really appreciate it. :)

I think that in general, the internet can be a dangerous place for young people because it's crawling with dangerous criminals, pedophiles and sexual predators of all sorts and often, many young people don't seem to grasp fully just how dangerous the internet CAN be. BUT....as for limiting their ability to respond on SH? No. I don't think so. Just because someone is young, doesn't mean that their opinion doesn't count or matter or that they don't have something intelligent and thoughtful to add to a conversation. I have three kids, 11, 13, and 16 and I enjoy hearing how they think about things and how they view the world. I sometimes ask them their opinions on some of the questions that i see here. Why leave them out of the conversation? We might actually LEARN something from some of them!
