It completely depends on who raises them and how they are raised. They are not bad pets at all.

Personally I am undecided when it comes to this. As I have not own a Pitbull and my younger brother almost lost his cheek to a Pitbull attack (we asked the owners that the dog be put through obedience training as my brother didn't want the dog put down), but I strongly believe it is solely on the way they are raised.

I have my own reasons and refuse to list them. Too many immature people attack others simply for not holding the same views. It is what it is...YES.

Its the owners who teach them how to fight and attack things and or people or other dogs.

The are awesome dogs...extremely smart, and loyal, and protective....There are only bad owners, who take that awesome animal, and ruin them....
The same goes for Dobies, and Rotties..and many other large breeds....

I'm not a huge animal lover, but there is a reason some insurance companies consider some large breed dogs a liability. . .

How does not being an animal lover make me a hypocrit? Do you even know what that means? I was making a statement based on observation not personal experience.

Some friends' pit raised their three girls for 15 years and they never had an incident in all that time.

As a matter of fact, the dog was sweeter and friendlier than their house cats, a smart beautiful dog we all love and miss.

I love dogs. Pits are a potentially dangerous breed because invariably, they are owned by exactly the type of people who should not have control of such an animal. The stats cannot be argued with...you have to carefully watch those dogs. I recall a city in California had a standard order to immediately put down any stray pit bulls captured. Very sad and unfair.

It is sad. I think the owners are to blame. I have one and she is a great pet. It really depends on who or how they are raised

There is a story on the news this very minute about a pit bull mauling of a three year old (NYC). The child needed 28 stitches to his face.

I do a lot of volunteering and stuff with animals and have yet to meet a mean pitbull. Most of them are friendly and amazing dogs. Unfortunately the media only likes to cover bad stuff so they only show people the ones who attack do to bad owners/breeding.

Most pits are sweeties and they are one of the best family dogs.

I don't think pitt bulls are bad pets. However, I think the wrong people often own pit bulls. The owners are the problem. It's not the pit bull's fault. If properly taken care of, pit bulls can be good pets.

Bully breeds are just fine. Once upon a time they were cherished family pets. It's the dog fighters who created the bad image for the breed.

We've raised them for years...They aren't any different than any other pet/dog....My grandkids have been around them all their lives and NEVER been shown anything but love by the dogs....It s the owners that raise them ., who you need to be questioning...

All dogs bigger than a Chihuahua scare the crap out of me because I was bit when I was little. But, my cousins step-father had a pit and, once I was around her for a little while, she didn't scare me at all! She was so sweet and loving. The worst thing about her was that she thought she was a lap dog....I was only 12 and she was bigger than my lap.

I own a Pit Bull, and a Boxer/Pit, and they're the two sweetest dogs :)

If you train them right, don't abuse them, and show them love, they should turn out to be a wonderful pet that will stay by your side, and love you in return :)

They are great animals, I have a pit mix myself, but they are also not what I would recomend as a general family dog or as a first dog for naive novices. There are good valid reasons why so many of these dog owners are Michael Vick type thugs and ignorant trailer trash, and why they are so highly attracted to these dogs.

why not would you let yours around your family. I raised mine to be around people and she loves everyone she meats. She never snapped at anyone playing or not playing

I do allow mine around friends and family on a limited basis but I am not a novice owner and I do not leave him unattended with young children. Pits and their sub/breeds do have known issues and, just like some semi-wild animals, they can be as friendly and fun loving as Gandhi right up until the time they are triggered by something and their instincts kick in.

    Good Luck!

I really don't think you should have a pit if you have doubts about their aggression. You obviously don't socialize your dog, which is the number one reason they bite, plus your fears will absolutely influence your dog's behavior whether you think you're showing it or not. Your dog may attack someone in the future just because of YOUR fears, not his.
