I know weather patterns can be awfully unpredictable, but with El Nino on it's way and the tropics heating up(which is right on time), do we have a chance to break heat records again next year?

I think it will get worse. We might have a mild year followed by two hot years, then three and then always. I think we're at the tipping point now. It may already be too late to do what we need to do to stop it. We don't have the will to do it.

the weather has seemingly developed a mind of it's own and want's to kill us lol

Not likely to have a really hot summer next year and if El Nino is really in effect we sould really have a very wet winter.

Well, I saw the long range forecast for Texas and other southern states. It says cooler and wetter. That would be great.

Our heat (N. Illinois) broke last week, and it looks like it'll stay broken. It's warm today, but the high for the next few days is supposed to be about what the lows were some nights in July. I sure don't want to turn my furnace on yet!

Weather is unpredictable, but the trend is toward warmet weather. Since 2012 was unusually warm, I wouldvlean toward slightly cooler, just based on statistical probability.

It's like a heads/tails probability thing. We don't know where it will land til it gets there. That's one thing that makes even short term forecasting so unpredictable.
