Do you think Mayor Bloomberg's ban on soda is a good idea?

You!

I have been listening to New York stations on the Bloomberg soda ban. I want to say that people should be able to consume what they want, but if so, then don't ask us to pay for your medical treatment for obesity or diabetes.

I think it's none of the mayor's business.

Yes and no. Yes because people are generally too oblivious to how much they take in in calories and sugar and cannot help themselves, obviously. And since the cost of their health care will be taken on by tax payers for the most part, something has to be done.

No because it seems to be an infringement on our rights. When do my rights trump your rights with regard to paying taxes to support ones egregious lifestyle?

I understand his goal, but if we let this happen, we will be letting control take over all of our choices. SO, you don't want to support obese people - Why would THAT be something YOU pick out to complain about, when we have millions of people coming here who haven't ever had any kind of vaccinations? How about all the teens having kids? Let's not forget alcoholics and drug abusers - as if obese people outnumber any one of these leeches. I guarantee, obesity cannot possibly be on the top of the list of taxpayer money abusers. Bulimics and people who are "perfect" weight get diabetes everyday - but it's OK to pay for them?

You are right. I just said obese, because the subject is about sugar drinks that cause it.

I don't think he's being honest with his intentions for the new legislation, and on the slight possibility he is. He will be disappointed when he realizes that people are just buying 2-4 16 Oz drinks to compensate.

Well, I thought about that and I think by the time the first drink is finished, the people will feel full enough and they will not feel that they MUST finish a huge soda.

Maybe, I'm gauging my opinion on a sister who when I started buying 12 oz sodas began downing a six pack a day.

It is. I've slowed down on the soda, but still attack the coffee.

well, coffee is good for the brain and if you leave out the sugar you are fine.

I said yes, only because it will save on the medical bills we have to pay for sugarics.

Don't single out one, and pretend all the other people sucking off the system don't exist. Tell them ALL to get their lives in order. It won't "save" anything. It will limit your choices, and that's rarely a good thing.

I was just concentrating on the sugar that causes the fat, not the rest of the idiots.
