Do you think it's wrong to not get married?

A close friend of mine is Catholic, and, according to him, once young people in his church graduate High School, the pressure to get married is on. He said that waiting too long to get married, or not getting married at all is frowned upon. I don't think it's right to pressure people to get married at such a young age. I mean, just because you don't get married right out of High school doesn't mean you'll never get married. :/ What do you people think? Do you think there's anything wrong with not getting married?

It's the business of you and your potential spouse, no one else. No one can tell you it's wrong not to get married, because it isn't. It would be rather unintelligent to get married simply because one was being told they should, especially if that person wasn't ready to make such a serious commitment.

Based on my personal beliefs its fine to remain unmarried as long as you stay celibate but most people are not capable of doing that so if you cant remain celibate then is better to marry but I dont believe that its necessary to marry young. That is my personal beliefs though and not something I would try to force on others.

It's a very, very important decision to make, and if someone is only getting married because people are telling them it's wrong not to, it's probably the wrong decision. That's something that people need to decide for themselves.

Your friends church is horribly wrong. Its wrong of them to push people into marraige, its not their decision and anyone apart of a church that thinks it(and they agree with it) should be looked down upon is an ass hat. Seriously you need help.

Personally, there is no way in hell I am EVER getting married. However, that's just me.
Anyway, is it a sin to not marry? Is it frowned upon to never marry? I never really thought it was. I thought it's just fine to remain unmarried. Nuns do not/cannot get married. That seems to be perfectly fine.

The catholic community in my city is nuts. If you stay unmarried too long, and you aren't a nun or preist, they assume the worst.

Look at the numbers of unwed mothers, dependency on government support and deadbeat dads in this country. Stats back up the increased crime, drop-out rates in homes with only one parent. Bad enough that Kids have little or no moral guidance at home and school we wonder why this generation has become one of violence and hate towards the family and the country in general. I have been married for almost 40 years today's generation have no respect for themselves, their spouse and the reason why marriages fail....this generation is LAZY & SELFISH it's what I want, marriage is and was never a 50 /50 deal but a 100% give & take in both directions, the good with the bad. People live under the delusion the grass is greener on the other side..well when you get there you find out that another cow already eat all the grass..

I don't see a problem with it, especially when 50% of marriages end in divorce any way. I'm married, but my best friend isn't, and won't be married. However, she is in a loving, monogamous relationship, and they are expecting a child. It's their decision, who am I to judge?

Better off that way..whoever came up with the idea, or whoever pressures people into getting married needs a slap upside the head. Alot of people get married then things go REALLY bad..so I say BETTER DEAD THAN WED!

It's an outdated archaic tradition that is founded in property, namely with the newly acquired wife as zed property.
No, it's fine to avoid marriage - and probably a lot more financially sound these days.

What is NOT acceptable, however, is to remain single your whole life. How is it you find happiness being alone your whole life? I'm 19 and just about to break down because I've never had a relationship.
